The fact that people don’t realize that these home daycares are just immigrants treating their own children as carees and getting tax money for it is astounding. Why do some of them have 4 children? Because that’s how many children the family has. So they get Snap based on per child. They’re getting section 8. And on top of it, they’re getting paid to take care of their own fucking kids. They’re easily clearing $12,000/mo for doing fuck all. Even if you want to argue they’re not getting snap and section 8, there isn’t anything in the law that prevents them from getting $2000/mo for their own kid in their own daycare. It’s easy to for them do. They each agree to “register” each other’s kids, get paid for it, and never send their own kids to the daycare where they’re registered. It’s a fucking racket.

You are inventing scenarios and simultaneously misrepresenting the psychology of the parents in said scenario. Obviously the answer is the child in your Last Action Hero fan-fic. Doing everything you can to protect the child is not the same as prioritizing said child over your spouse. If you weren’t inventing scenarios to make a point, you’d see that. Your spouse is your priority, then your child, and your mother doesn’t even enter into the equation.
