@JessicaJinxxx there is more to it! this is an archival server for my entire family. besides; half the capacity disappears anyways due to RAIDZ2 overhead, leaving "only" 40TB usable.

@amanita__cart raidz2; thats 2 drives overhead. leaves ~40TB usable space. this is for my family's NAS where we'll be storing a bunch of things like family photos, immich (phone photo backups), and "linux ISOs" for jellyfin also backups of all our computers :3 probably overkill but whatever ^^

@RoootTheFox That's simply ridiculous. There must be more to this. I have a copy of all my iphone photos and all of my family's and that's a total of around 60,000 and takes up 200gb. Everything I own (including my YouTube video edits) fits in less than 2TB.

@boymoderology @CitizenGucci1 above 4 drives it makes little sense to use a striped mirror as you'll just loose like half of your storage capacity unless you want like full 50% redundancy. with RAIDZ2 you'll only ever have an overhead of 2 drives, which in my case would be -40TB and i prefer that
