What is not patriotism: * Spreading falsehoods or fake news that harms the nation * Celebrating foreign success over national achievements * Neglecting civic duties and responsibilities * Supporting or aiding enemies/foreign interests over national ones * Promoting tribalism, sectionalism, or disunity * Sabotaging national assets or economy * Corruption and embezzlement What is patriotism patriotism * Participating in democracy eg voting * Respecting national symbols * Serving the country (military/paramilitary/nysc) * Community and civic engagement * Supporting national progress( buying locally made goods against imported ones) * Sacrificing for the greater good
Teachers, doctors, or civil servants continuing to work in difficult conditions for low pay because they believe in building the nation; * Constructive criticism
Loving Nigeria enough to speak out against corruption, bad leadership, tribalism, or injustice—not to tear it down, but to help it become better and more united. * Honouring heroes and history In summary patriotism is not just emotional pride—it’s active love shown through actions that strengthen and uplift the country. It can be quiet (paying taxes, raising good citizens) or visible (serving in uniform, waving the green-white-green flag), but at its core, it’s caring deeply about Nigeria’s success and future.
