A new P&S article by @RossetJan, Jérémie Poltier, and Jonas Pontusson argues that insights about unequal policy responsiveness can be gained by exploring temporal dynamics and variation across policy domains, as well as variation across countries. #sec-4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00…

New article in @EJPRjournal with @Carsten80554073. We use election surveys going back to the 1960s to show that inequality in policy congruence varies depending on the political mobilization of less affluent voters (through unions & turnout). doi.org/10.1111/1475-6… 🧵... 1/

Poor people in rich countries: Usually the richer the country ➡️ the better off the poor are. But not always. The US, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland are just as rich as Norway, but the poor are closer to the poor in Slovakia, than the poor in Norway. #dataviz

The opinions of policymakers are more congruent with those of the better off & policy choices also reflect their preferences more clearly. As social distance between rulers & ruled increases, representative democracy gets more class biased annualreviews.org/doi/abs/10.114…

We find that youth are more fearful and more likely to state they protest to defend their interests, whereas senior strikers are particularly angry and their main motivation is to pressure politicians. Our findings help to understand the climate strike movement’s heterogeneity.
