Trad Agency vs Chad Agency. Which one are you? Trad Agency: Generalists. They do web design, SEO, PPC, logo design, everything. And for anyone too. Local plumber to national ecom stores. Chad Agency:
Do one thing for one avatar. For example ‘Link Building for SAAS’. They are world class at that one thing, and know the avatar SO well, they know their pain points inside out. They can charge more as they have less competition. Every process from marketing to delivery is congruent. - Trad Agency: Custom and bespoke work. They spec up campaigns unique for each clients needs. No 2 campaigns are the same. Work is unpredictable and inconsistent, but they value giving the client exactly what they need. Chad Agency:
Productised solution. They offer 1-2 solutions, and because they are servicing one specific avatar, the campaigns are predictable in delivery and results. There are variables to change, but mostly they are doing one thing over and over. - Trad Agency:
In-house team. They build a team of in-house experts because they believe everything should be 100% in their control. They keep increasing their overheads and size of office as they get new clients. In tough times they may need to make layoffs and downsize. Chad Agency: Lean in-house team and outsource deliverables. The lean in-house team do the highest leverage tasks such as account management and strategy. All deliverables such as links, design, video, SEO etc are outsourced to contractors who are paid per unit of work. Meaning they can easily scale up and down, weathering any economic or industry storm. - Trad agency: Hourly billing. The trad agency keeps things simple and understandable and charges out their teams time to the client. Chad agency: Value billing. The chad agency charges for the value of the service rather than the time it takes. They understand that billing by time encourages inefficiency. They untie the time and value connection and scale exponentially. They place more focus on the results rather than the time it takes. - Trad agency: Charge at the end of the month via an invoice. Trad agencies stick to 30-60 day billing terms, because that’s the done thing. Chad agency: Charge upfront, like an ecom store. No work is done until payment is made. No chasing payments, no cashflow issues. - Trad agency:
Bi-weekly meetings to keep the client updated and to go over reports, to show the clients they are really ‘on it’ and in control of campaigns. Chad agency:
Quick weekly 5 minute loom and AI generated summary, going over the KPI’s. - Trad agency:
Beautiful $5k website with ‘Get a quote’ buttons at the end of every service pages. Chad agency: 1 page lander with video explanation, and a Stripe payment button for self onboarding. - In a world where niche markets are growing, and services are being sold like products, I think there’s space for every agency to evolve and be more ‘chad’.

I've been wondering for a long time when we would finally see a chart like this. If this growth trend continues in the days/weeks to come, it means we finally, officially have September 2023 Helpful Content Update recoveries happening. Like the one below. For reference, this site is up 2,800% since 2 days ago.

I was recently asked about “advanced” SEO. There are a few main scenarios that I see requiring more than the “basic” SEO skills due to the challenges / complexities they tend to have: 1. New (or far weaker) brand/site in very competitive search market, with the main challenge being resources prioritization for cost effective and fast enough impact. A key skill to win here: product / brand USP understanding, alignment and strategic target & prioritization on those feasible queries that actually matter to attract early customers and start growing brand authority/popularity. 2. Large bureaucratic organization requiring strong management skills to secure resources (vs other areas) and influence to get execution support from other teams you don’t directly control *fast enough* to compete with other well established players. Knowing how to communicate and earn trust and support with non-technical decision makers is fundamental. You’ll need to develop forecasts, run tests, pilot projects, etc. 3. Large dynamic sites with multi millions URLs (think marketplaces, e-commerce) where you need to execute at scale, for which a programmatic approach becomes a need for cost effectiveness, while keeping the necessary quality and relevance requirements to achieve goals and avoid crawl budget and indexing challenges. From internal linking to indexing rules or description generation, all needs to be dealt with product support and at scale. 4. A site with a business model that is not aligned or directly against with organic search findability requirements, hence having to establish product presence extension / alternatives / workarounds to develop allow you to be found whenever / however is needed. A deep understanding and influence on the product is critical to establish and develop the web presence required to rank. 5. Dealing with a Web product / site that a Google feature (or need/filter) is commoditizing, hence giving by default less visibility/traffic to. You’ll need to compete directly with them, identify strategic opportunities / alternatives for areas / topics not yet affected and new areas to grow. What others would you include? :)

CSS Tip! 🤯 You can create a CSS-only version of this balance slider using a scroll animation on the underlying input[type=range] 🚀 ::-webkit-slider-thumb { view-timeline: --thumb inline; } Scroll animation driven by the slider thumb animates a number between the "min" and "max" of the range 😅 @property --value { inherits: true; initial-value: 0; syntax: ''; } @keyframes sync { to { --value: 100; }} Tie that up to the contain animation-range ⚡️ .control { animation: sync both linear reverse; animation-timeline: --thumb; animation-range: contain; } Hoist the view timeline so all the parts of the control can use it! .control { timeline-scope: --thumb; } Use that value in a counter which is used for the labels. Create a low and a high for each side 😇 .control__label { counter-reset: low var(--value) high calc(100 - var(--value)); } .control__label::before { content: "COFFEE " counter(low) "%"; } .control__label::after { content: counter(high) "% MILK"; } That's the magic of updating the label values ✨ For the big track, it's a fake track. You can make use of the same --value property and do some calc() to work out the width of each part.
.control__track::before { width: calc(var(--value) * 1% - 0.5rem); background: var(--coffee); border-radius: 4px; transition: width 0.1s; } The width leaves a little gap for the indicator piece 🤙 The color calculation for --coffee isn't too wild but again you can use the same --value .control__track { --coffee: hsl(24 74% calc( 24% + (30% * ((100 - var(--value, 0)) / 100)) / 1 ) / 0.4); } Now for the last piece. Making the track change height. You could set up another custom property and animate its value using the --thumb timeline too 🔥 @property --shift { initial-value: 0; inherits: true; syntax: ''; } @keyframes shift { 0%, 31%, 61%, 100% { --shift: 0; } 32%, 60% { --shift: 1; } } Then use that --shift to update the translation of the label and height of the track 🤓 .label { transform: translateY(calc(var(--shift) * 50%)); transition: transform var(--speed) var(--timing); } Cool part here is that you can use the control to work out the @keyframes percentages 😅 Oh. And the timing for that little bounce? Use the linear() function 😎 :root { --timing: linear( 0, 0.5007 7.21%, 0.7803 12.29%, 0.8883 14.93%, 0.9724 17.63%, 1.0343 20.44%, 1.0754 23.44%, 1.0898 25.22%, 1.0984 27.11%, 1.1014 29.15%, 1.0989 31.4%, 1.0854 35.23%, 1.0196 48.86%, 1.0043 54.06%, 0.9956 59.6%, 0.9925 68.11%, 1 ); } Should probably do a video on this one. Lots of little custom property tricks for sure! 💯 It's not too far off the range slider with the tooltip that came up previously As always, any questions, let me know! Also, this one only works in Chrome currently ✅🥲 This one's a bit rocket science ha 🚀 @CodePen link below! 👇

Starting today, we’re rolling out an update to our results in Video mode to only show pages where the video is the main content of the page, to better connect users with the video content they're looking for. We will also be adding a new reason in Search Console to better explain why videos aren't indexed. More in: developers.google.com/search/blog/20…
