@ewertoncostapt @GerberKawasaki Incorrect as they go hand in hand when performing due diligence on illiquid or semi-liquid investments. You need to understand the regulations around pricing the underlying assets BEFORE making the investment or stay away from this investment class.

@RoundEarth71 @GerberKawasaki Fair point on suitability, but that's a separate issue from transparency. Even qualified investors deserve honest valuations. Selling illiquid assets at inflated marks to anyone regardless of net worth is still fraud.

Transparency in private markets is a must. There is a lot of bad private equity and credit out there and none of the firms are marking down the assets. This is exactly the fraudulent behavior that led to the financial crisis. It's time for some real accounting at the big PE firms.

Now think about that as there are many ways to generate return without using semi-liquid assets.

in undergrad i was in a study group and they were talking about things to "heal their inner child". i really didn't get the whole premise i guess -- had too nice a childhood, ya know? they asked me what would "heal me" and i said "i've been obsessed with 911 turbos and big titties for as long as i can remember, if that counts." nobody said a thing. just silence for minutes as they awkwardly flipped through notes like i was the weird one for not being raped as a kid.

off-topic I grew up surfing my whole life in California, specifically in Orange County, around San Clemente, Dana Point, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, etc. I have never once seen a great white during my childhood. In the past few years, I've had multiple personal encounters, and now beaches are being shut down almost weekly. I'm not sure what's going on here but FUCK MAN

A message from the Huntington Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Division: This morning, around 10:00 a.m., lifeguards observed a 9–10 ft great white shark actively feeding on a sea lion carcass in the surf line at Sunset Beach. The shark was exhibiting aggressive behavior near shore. In addition to the inherent danger posed by a great white shark in the area, the risk increases when they are actively feeding on large food sources. For public safety, the water is closed for 48 hours within one mile in each direction at North Pacific Avenue and 12th street (Sunset Beach Tower 12). We ask that all beachgoers check in with lifeguards and follow posted signs during the closure.
