@JohnByrnes13 Why wouldn’t the clean act pass the senate, there’s already a majority on it

So... For all those calling on Congress to separate out and pass a "clean" Richard Star act, here's some reality: 1. There's not enough time left this Congress to separate and pass two major veterans bills. 2. It took significant negotiating to get to a TCAVA that will pass both houses & 3. "Star" won't pass the Senate. Do you really want to sacrifice all the health benefits for vets in the current bill, only to fail to pass anything?
John Byrnes@JohnByrnes13

So... Lot's (I mean lot's) of #Veterans groups are coming out against Taking Care of America's Veterans Act. Objecting because it "waters down" the Major Richard Star Act (expanding current benefits for medically retired vets) and reforms disability criteria for future claimants with Tinnitus and Apnea. Here's what there against:

Here is my cost: the picture shows what a PKM round can do from 10 yards away. Anyway, please remove the "lesser of" language found in section 101 of the "Take Care of Americas Vets Act".. you are reducing my benefits by 50% with that little phrase. While we are at it, add in our backpay to the bill as well, give it all back please. H.R. 9237 § 101 (amending 10 U.S.C. § 1414(b)(2)) “Disability Retirees with Less Than 20 Years of Service” ‘‘(C) DISABILITY RETIREES WITH LESS THAN 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. —In the case of a member retired under chapter 61 of this title with a combat-related disability and who, at the time of the member’s retirement, had less than 20 years of service otherwise creditable under section 1405 of this title or less than 20 years of service computed under section 12732 of this title, the member may receive, without regard to sections 5304 and 5305 of title 38, the lesser of— ‘‘(i) both— ‘‘(I) the retired pay for which the member is eligible under chapter 61 of this title; and ‘‘(II) veterans’ disability compensation under title 38; or‘‘(ii) both— ‘‘(I) an amount equal to the product of the retired pay base computed under section 1406(b) or 1407 of this title and the retired pay multiplier determined under section 1409 of this title, as such base pay and multiplier would be computed if the member had 20 years of service creditable under section 1405 of this title; and ‘‘(II) veterans’ disability compensation under title 38. congress.gov/bill/119th-con…. #majorrichardstaract #tcoava #tcava

Members of Congress need to understand that they need to be responsible stewards to American taxpayers. If Members believe another offset is preferable for H.R. 9237 – they can offer one – we cannot pretend the cost does not exist.

Cement your legacy, junior congressman doing as he pleases, easy reelection for you! You’d be a legend! Life’s short, remember no regrets, be the combat wounded’s personal hero. To be honest we don’t look up to anyone really, but we will always remember your name. “Yeah Cory Mills? Oh yeah he broke rank, signed the discharge petition which prevented the “lesser of” language in section 101 of the “Take Care of Americans Act from screwing over the actual combat wounded and subverting the original clean #majorrichardstaract, yeah Cory’s a legend”. That’s how that conversation would go.

.@CoryMillsFL Before the introduction of the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act, you expressed concerns about whether the standalone #MajorRichardStarAct could clear the Senate. With TCAVA now on the table and H.Res. 1247 only 5 signatures from success, many veterans would appreciate an update. Do you believe the discharge petition remains the best path forward, or do you support TCAVA as the preferred vehicle?

The roughly 55,000 CH61 medically retired combat veterans have not received DoD retirement pay from the DoD accounts. That money was placed there every year the service member was serving via congressional approved NDAAs passed yearly. Vs the 2,400,000 who have been receiving concurrent DoD retirement as well as VA disability. There is no funding needed. The fat pot of $$$ is, and has been just sitting frozen in the DoD's retirement account with CH61 Medically retired veterans names and ammounts owed to each unable to be paid out due to Congress's snafu of not clearly stating "medically" retired as being a state of retirement back in 2004. No funds need to be raised No cuts need to be found Just a simple wording legaleese argument using 55,000 combat retired veterans as a tool to argue over for current issues. Do the math... And realize the metric TONN of backpay that is and has been owed to the CH61 retirees. Everyone wants to dip their hands into that cookie jar VS. giving it to the Medically Retired Combat Veterans it belongs to. 🤟

A plan to nearly triple a VA home loan refinancing fee in order to cover higher benefits for the nation’s most severely injured veterans is part of a nearly 600-page veteran benefits bill advancing in Congress. stripes.com/veterans/2026-…

The brand new H.R.9237 - Take Care of America’s Veterans Act Otherwise known as the Screw Over American's Veterans Act Would reduce my Army retirement from $3,500 to $2,333. That does not end the Wounded Veteran Tax in the slightest. veteransjusticealliance.org/major-richard-…

@RandPaul "So what im proposing is, If we want to do this, if we think this is fair, to add the disability spending to the retirement spending and not have any kind of canceling out, pay for it… money doesn’t grow on trees, We can’t simply say well this is for a good cause therefore we’re just going to explode the debt.. but just spending money no matter how good the cause is not what we should do, I object." youtube.com/watch?v=S2dCHB… Do you realize this bill is for combat wounded veterans who were retired early due to combat wounds? In other words, you are essentially saying, here is your workers comp, but we are taking your 401k. Do you ever stop and think about the psyche of recently combat wounded men at Walter Reed when this is explained to them? Because someone has to explain it to them, maybe you should be the one explaining it to them... I mean... if you really think this is "fair" after all. It's not too late though Senator, just change your position and bring it to a vote, you'll go from universally despised by the combat wounded to our personal hero within minutes. #MajorRichardStarAct
