@zachtraylor @JoeGreenUSF I am in no way an expert on Charleston basketball, but it would be pretty shocking to me if someone who went 24-9 (13-5) and 21-11 (14-4) and finished 2nd and 3rd in the conference was on the hot seat after 2 years at a school with 3 first round NCAAT exists in 25 years.

@RowdiesFaithful @JoeGreenUSF Mack's seat in Charleston was getting hot. This was a chance for him to reset the clock on his contract and buy himself some more time to try and get back into the swing of it.

USF is not paying like a p4 in men’s basketball, nowhere close (paying 1.4 when the typical range in the p4 is 2.5 to 4.5)! But USF is paying women’s basketball p4 pay (bottom of range). Why is USF paying so low for men’s but very high for women’s? I believe women’s basketball overall is a revenue loser. They don’t make money. Men’s basketball however is the only other revenue sport outside of football…. So, we pay our 2nd revenue sport like a low to mid major would. Not all gas and no breaks. To be fair, we did give Hartline 3.5 which is bottom of the p4 range in football and is more than a couple schools in the cheapest conference (big 12). So, USF went all in on football and went big on women’s basketball

In both of their first years at #USF: Kristy Curry will make $750,000 - with $500,000 from base pay and $250,000 from supplemental compensation. Chris Mack will make $1.4 million - $500,000 from base and $900,000 from supplemental.

Why do I claim the ACC is dead man walking? This article does a fantastic job illustrating the disparity between the ACC and the Power 2, @bigten and @SEC . It is simple economics. FSU, Clemson, and UNC see how much their counterparts are earning in the B1G and SEC. They realize they cannot compete financially. Each year the disparity grows. The quicker they leave the ACC the better. Because the cost of leaving was unclear they sued the ACC. They know the cost now and PE money is now available to help with the buyouts. The other schools in the ACC see the writing is on the wall. They have reached out and negotiated landing spots. But not all of them have a landing spot. Especially teams who have not done well adapting to the NIL and revenue sharing environment. Those teams will have to try and salvage what is left of the ACC or merge it with another conference. Look at the Pac 12 to see what that future will look like. Who will be left behind? Who will move up? spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte/n…

If Miami played in the american, they would have worse attendance than usf. Usf drew 45k for a hone game against fau when we were 6-1. This is not apples to apples. Usf averaged 53k a home game under jim Leavitt in the big east years ago. Being in the P4 matters for attendance. Nobody is coming to watch usf place rice. Nobody would come see miami play rice either. Ignorant take.

Miami has been in consideration. They have some valid reasons. AAU, great medical, and athletic success. National brand. But they also have some detractors. Small, private school. Off campus stadium with poor attendance. Limited room to expand and upgrade on campus athletic facilities. However, the biggest detractor has been a lawsuit filed by Wisconsin over tampering that has soured the relationship Miami has with many B1G presidents. So, an invite is not a sure thing for Miami. However, Big 12 is very interested and needs blue bloods to boost their standings and may offer a deal Miami cannot refuse.

@FlyersfanLGF @Nichola65954107 @usforaclesports I definitely think there will be more students! But I certainly don't think it is going to be 7k more attendance. The student section is going to have a limited size, especially in only a 35k seat stadium.

@RowdiesFaithful @Nichola65954107 @usforaclesports You don’t factor in the fact that students have to travel 30ish minutes to get to RayJay. That’s a hassle and a lot of students who might otherwise go to a game decide to watch on tv instead. Now that the games are walking distance I think you’ll see higher attendance

OPINION: USF is undoubtedly in its most transformative era yet, but it still faces a critical roadblock. A move to the Big 12 could change the trajectory of USF Athletics for generations to come. ✍️ by Hong Phong Le usforacle.com/2026/03/23/usf…

@photog_JayMac @bigten The Big 10 isn't realistic unless conferences get stupid big (like 40 teams). We wouldn't even be the first choice from Florida for it and are way far down the totem poll overall.

@FlyersfanLGF @Nichola65954107 @usforaclesports USF averaged 33k this year and had 3 games under 30k. 35k is about the right size for being in the American right now. It's too small for the big games, but it won't feel empty for the small ones. I think it will work great for now and we probably expand if we move conferences.

@Nichola65954107 @usforaclesports The new stadium is built in such a way that adding seating will be fairly easy. I agree though I think they shoulda put in 45-50k from the start. Think they are underestimating how many students didn’t go to RayJay because it’s a pain in the ass to get there from campus

@USFBulls24 @higginshalal @usforaclesports I mean obviously if it ends up as that then it's not an awesome spot. But it's unlikely in that scenario the Big 12 wants USF either - they would much rather take the second tier of ACC schools that would be jumping ship in your scenario.

@TGBN1997 I dont think the Big 12 adds USF because they already have that type of profile in Orlando. I think the Big 10 is the best option. ACC if if other schools leave.

I would not be shocked if USF ended up in the Big 12. Adds a great Rivalry, as well another eastern timezone school, and a great academic institution. The question is who would they add with us.

@Ucfdk @usforaclesports The Big 12 isn’t expanding with USF until after it sees what happens with the ACC. And assuming the ACC more or less stays together (except the top couple teams), it’s going to be just as stable when it backfills a couple of schools.

@higginshalal @usforaclesports Even with those schools, the ACC geography is way better. Also it is hard for me to see a world where the Big 12 picks USF vs. just waiting to see what happens with the ACC in a few years. They would prefer a number of ACC schools over USF.

@RowdiesFaithful @usforaclesports USF is consistently mentioned as the first pick for expansion in both the ACC and B12. The payouts would favor USF more in the B12. The ACC has also set the precedent that they no longer care for geography after the inclusion of SMU/Cal/Stanford.

@ItsABullLife4Me @usforaclesports For sure, the Big 12 has a number of good flagships. But the difference in school rankings is extremely large between the two conferences, for what that is worth.

@RowdiesFaithful @usforaclesports Its not as prestigious academically but there is AAU schools in the B12 as well. I agree that the ACC is more natural but the B12 seems to be more stable at this point.

@BadgerTrav @cwdarney Right? Utah State vs. Arizona being played in San Diego makes great sense for that time. Alabama vs. Texas Tech played in Tampa makes zero sense.

@cwdarney the time is stupid but can be justified if the game is being played on the West Coast, but having a game in Tampa starting at 9:45 ridiculous.

@DanWolken The Mountain West also had 4 top-60 Kenpom teams but only one made the tournament. It probably helps the upset label quite a bit if it is New Mexico or San Diego State who wins the MWC, gets an 11 seed, and beats BYU instead of Texas. Obviously not guaranteed though.

The 13 seeds this year ranged from 87 to 151 in KenPom. A decade ago, the worst 13 seed was 94. That’s a really meaningful difference and it comes down to realignment and auto bids bumping weak teams into 11 and 12 seeds.
Eric Krupka@ekrup

@DanWolken That certainly plays a part in it but the unlimited transfers with not having to sit out has made a lot of mid majors just feeders for the P4/5 schools.

@CSOonX Depends on your definition of drama I suppose, but Akron, Cal Baptist, Hofstra, and Furman all had two possession games deep into the 2nd half. Wright State lead with 5 minutes left. None came down to the last second, but I certainly wouldn't say we had no upset drama.

We don't want to catastrophize because Thursday was so great but it's concerning that: - There was 0 upset drama yesterday after the Kentucky-Santa Clara game - Betting favorites were 16-0 on Friday - This is the 2nd year in a row no team worse than a 12 seed won NIL & the transfer portal might have been midnight for NCAA Tournament Cinderellas. #MarchMadness

@T3Bracketology Felt like with one or two exceptions, pretty much everyone from the 12 seed on up was competitive, and we had a couple of really high seeds make things a game. It would have been fun to get one or two more, but it’s hard to complain.

Over the last 25 tournaments we have averaged: -(4) 10+ seeded mid majors winning in round 1 -(1.4) 7+ seeded mid majors making at least the second weekend -(0.7) 11+ seeded mid majors making at least the second weekend 2026 so far with 8 games to go… 4 7+ seeded mid majors won 2 11+ seeded mid majors won We would be looking at a pretty standard window with 8 games to go if Santa Clara had won. The whole narrative that this year is vastly different is dramatic.
