Saddened and low to hear tonight about Chris Dodd leaving us last Sunday. Farewell to a mentor, friend, and one of rowing's greats, a quiet but sharply perceptive writer. Got the news earlier while at choir singing Adele's "When we were young". He would have appreciated it.

@MartinSLewis Oh, and biggest error is not pulling the eyelids up and down respectively enough. Easy to do but be firm with yourself. Shouldn’t hurt keeping them apart but you do need a fair gap of space to apply the lens without it getting caught on an eyelid. Just practice in mirror.

Just had my third 'contact lenses lesson'. I finally managed to get a lens in each eye after much effort, though getting them out was hard. Still not good enough for them to let me buy the lenses. Did anyone else out there find it this hard!

The last time so many of the previous successful Olympic squad were absent (some retired, some on a break) was 2017, result 1G+3S+3B of which the G was the Para-four, one S was non-Olympic and two more medals were singles. This is a much better set of results for the level.

And finally the scores on the doors for the GBR team. Second on the medal table and a particularly strong Para-squad performance in gold terms. But some very good outcomes for lots of newcomers and new combos, and total more medals than any other nation.

The boating area - does anyone know for sure what the tumblers under the rafts are doing? Might it be aeration to reduce algal scum buildup?
