Before I was an MP, I worked on the current series of polymer banknotes at the Bank of England. So I know how decisions about our currency are made, and why they matter. Nigel Farage clearly doesn’t. What he conveniently ignores is that central banks regularly issue new banknote series. It’s how they stay ahead of counterfeiters and keep our currency secure. It’s technical. It’s essential. And it’s completely routine. So why is he manufacturing outrage? Because Farage and Reform UK have spent months attacking the Bank of England itself. They’ve demanded the Bank halt quantitative tightening. 💷 They’ve pushed to stop interest being paid on central bank reserves, which would completely destroy monetary policy transmission. ⚠️ And Farage has even suggested replacing the Governor with someone aligned to his agenda. Let’s be clear: Politicians leaning on central banks is how you spook markets and undermine confidence in the economy. Bank of England independence, brought in by the last Labour government, exists for a reason. To keep markets and household finances stable. I back the Bank to keep our currency secure, not to be dragged into political point-scoring. So if Farage spent half as much time understanding how the Bank works as he does attacking it, we’d hear a lot less of this nonsense. ❌

I own a small bakery. Business has been slow. Rent is up. I was thinking about closing. Last Friday, a teenager came in. He looked nervous. He counted out change for a cookie. He was short 50 cents. "It's okay," I said. "Take it." He ate it at a table, looking at his math homework. He looked stuck. I used to be a math tutor. I walked over. "Quadratic equations?" He nodded. "I don't get it." I sat down and helped him for 20 minutes. He got it. He left smiling. The next day, he came back with two friends. They bought cookies. The day after that, five kids came. Apparently, he told the school, "The lady at the bakery helps with homework." Now, my bakery is the after-school hang-out spot. It's loud. It's messy. There are backpacks everywhere. Yesterday, I found a note in the tip jar. It was wrapped around a $20 bill. "Thanks for helping my son pass math. A Mom." I'm not closing the bakery. I think I finally found my purpose. It's not cookies. It's community.

Six months ago, Luke didn’t know if he’d be able to finish his apprenticeship. Today, he’s officially a qualified Electrical Engineer. ⚡️ After his previous programme at pp closed unexpectedly, Luke joined WeFix London — and kept going. Six to seven months ago, Luke’s four-year apprenticeship was unexpectedly disrupted when his former employer PP closed their programme, removing a clear pathway forward late in his training. WeFix London stepped in. Since joining us, Luke has continued developing his skills, gaining valuable on-site experience, and progressing exactly as a proper apprenticeship should. In just over a week, he’ll be taking his final exam — a major milestone as he comes to the end of his four-year apprenticeship. At WeFix London, apprenticeships are a long-term commitment.
