@AzadCholey @KurdistanWatch Think twice. Before any politics, this is humanitarian, any kurdish should be able and be free to travel. No one forgot closure of kurdistan parliament. That's the ruling party's behavior when things are not according to his taste.

During his visit to Sulaimani today, Kirkuk’s governor said he cannot visit Erbil because he is being boycotted and is not welcomed by KDP officials. This comes on top of the KDP’s boycott of the new Iraqi president, Nizar Ahmed. The problems are piling up and are becoming increasingly untenable. When the leader of the largest Sunni bloc, Mohammed al-Halbousi, cannot visit Erbil, when relations with PM Al-Sudani have deteriorated to the point that the KDP has been backing his rival, Nouri al-Maliki, when the Iraqi president cannot visit, when the governor of Kirkuk cannot visit, and when tensions have also been mounting in Mosul, this is no longer about one dispute here and another there. It points to a deeper political failure. The KDP needs a reset. It cannot continue like this. Otherwise, its electoral strength will increasingly become a liability if it cannot convert electoral success into alliances, or at least into workable political relationships.

If the United States truly thinks about withdrawing from NATO, then European security will be based solely on the European Union. But not in its current form. I think that the EU is in a situation where it needs more countries. The UK, Ukraine, Türkiye, and Norway. These are four strong countries, which are part of Europe. Together, the UK, Ukraine, and Türkiye have armies that are stronger than Russia's army. Without Ukraine and Türkiye, Europe can’t match Russia. With the four countries on board you can wrest control of the seas, have secure skies and the largest land forces. It’s not about offense, because when Russia makes the decision to have an army of 2.5 million people by 2030, Europe has to think about security and how to preserve its independence. The UK once was a member of the EU. There are concerns about agriculture when it comes to Türkiye. But you can manage all of this if you have a really great economy. But security comes first, economy second. Not vice versa. From an interview on The Rest Is Politics podcast (5/5).

Nzar Amedi, a Kurd from PUK, has been elected as the Iraqi president, breaking the government formation deadlock. This outcome again highlights a missed opportunity for the Kurdish parties to unite behind a strong candidate. The presidency in Iraq is not a powerless role, yet elite political bargaining, across Shia, Kurdish, and Sunni actors, continues to produce consensus-driven but weak figures rather than influential leaders. In practice, at best he will resemble his predecessors; more realistically, he will be even weaker: not a strong personality at the Kurdistan level, let alone across Iraq more broadly. Few people in Kurdistan had heard his name before, and he remains largely unknown to much of the younger generation.
