Sad really. Martha died of cancer in 1954 before becoming Queen. Astrid died in a car crash in 1935, a year after becoming Queen.

#OnThisDay in 1863 Princess Mathilde of Saxony was born as the daughter of the future King George of Saxony and Maria Anna of Portugal. Two marriage proposals fell through, making Mathilde bitter. She never married.
She died on 27 March 1933.

Two reasons why I love the House of Stuart and their Cavalier and Jacobite supporters is the kind of Monarchy they espoused and their ability to unite diverse peoples. An updated version of such is badly needed to-day for Great Britain, Ireland, and the Commonwealth Realms.
