As travel baseball season begins I’ve already seen and heard it referred to as “daddy ball” Truth be told, we need “daddy ball”. Because without the “daddies” guess what? There would be a lot of kids without teams to play on Dads are coaching and making team because if they don’t who is? There’s plenty of dads sitting in lawn chairs who won’t coach, can’t coach and probably shouldn’t coach All these parents, aunts, uncles and family friends want to complain and have opinions but they haven’t done anything to help the team or their kids at home Late payments, won’t help with fundraising, never thrown a single BP session, their kids always late to practice, missing his equipment, can’t find his hat and always “forgot” his water All these people have one thing in common though. They never hit a walk off drive to right field, struck a batter out, made a diving catch or turned a single double play…but they know how to do it all better than the coach who probably has done all those things The can’t tell you what number the catchers position is on a roster card…but they could do it better So maybe, just maybe instead of trashing every travel baseball team you see this spring and summer as some “daddy ball” team just shut the fuck up and be glad there’s a place for kids to play ball that want to and men willing to donate their time, energy and alot of their own money for zero fucking dollars in return so they can
