@NationalTheatre Denys Lasdun was an extraordinary architect and a man of grea integrity. I was Sir Laurence’s lighting designer with the NT at the Old Vic and became the theatre consultant. My new book “A Sense of Theatre-The Untold Story of the National Theatre” will be published in June 2022.

Today marks Denys Lasdun's birthday - the architect behind our beautiful building. He'd actually never designed a theatre before. Our founding Artistic Director, Laurence Olivier, said, 'We didn't want anyone who had designed a theatre before, we wanted to find a new soul.'

Hazel Vincent Wallace caused the Thorndike Theatre to be built, designed by the late #ABTTFellow Rod Ham and with contribution by #ABTTFellow @Rplight49 & @TheatreProjects What a tremendous champion she was for theatre at the heart of her community.
