Just stopped a driver who was on his phone while driving, and also eating a pizza from the open box on his front passenger seat. Warned him for dangerous driving and issued $580 fine. @reginapolice

Had someone at a lecture I assisted with this weekend argue it was unfair his wife got a 72 hr suspension when she let their son smoke marijuana in the car while she drove and didn't believe she could be impaired from that. I didn't even know what to say.@reginapolice

Crowding driver prohibited 245 (3) No driver of a motor vehicle shall allow the compartment containing the steering wheel to be over-crowded while the vehicle is in operation on a highway.

@Sasky_Regina @kilo63 @reginapolice We have to see them being distracted, the act of them being on their lap isn't evidence enough for a charge. But it's also unsafe. If that airbag goes off, the dog will not be ok and will cause more damage to the driver. It's happened here before.

Speak of the devil. Just stopped a driver doing 50 km/hr on these slippery roads, in heavy traffic, without a hand on the wheel, eating McDonald's fries...in an unregistered vehicle. $1160 in fines. @reginapolice

@kilo63 @reginapolice If you have a sip of coffee, no. We have to prove it's causing a distraction. Like no hands on the wheel, swerving, not looking at the road. It would be a charge of driving without due care and attention, which is also $580.

@IGY6911 Haha, thanks. I was sent this by a few people. The "kid" was in his 20s, so I legally couldn't tell him anything, and that made him mad. It's all on video and was on Sunday, so the road was cleared. Oh well, I can't make everyone happy.

@bhartianinCA Well, the light turns yellow before it's red. So that means slow and prepare right start. Also, remember that 50 km/hr is the maximum and under ideal road conditions. This is the season of less than ideal roads, so slow down, and you'll be able to stop.

@RpsTrafficTeamB What should I do if I find myself in a situation where I think I can cross the intersection, but the light turns red before I make it through? Clearly, slamming the brakes isn’t a safe option in these conditions. Thanks

@prairi3s @Duchy179 @reginapolice That's incorrect. You may want to read the Traffic Safety Act and the regulations. We are exempt if we are in the execution of our duties, not just an emergency. So running a plate at a red light is allowed.

@RpsTrafficTeamB @Duchy179 @reginapolice Only in Emergency Situations not while just stopping at red light & checking the vehicle in front of yours plates? That isn’t during an emergency situation. That is actually doing the opposite b/c not keeping Ur eyes on the road can endanger others.

Stopped a driver for being on his phone. He thought it was OK since it was "technically" the passengers phone. I said he was holding it, and it didn't matter who owned it. $580 fine issued. @reginapolice

@prairi3s @Duchy179 @reginapolice Police are exempt under the TSA as we respond to emergency situations and require the computer for our jobs.

@RpsTrafficTeamB @Duchy179 @reginapolice Exactly what is distracted driving? When at a red light and a cop is checking your plates, consider distracted driving they are looking their computer device and not watching the road?

Just stopped a driver using Snapchat in this weather. Driver was also suspended from driving just 2 weeks ago for impaired driving. $580 fine, court summons, and second vehicle impounded in the past two weeks. @reginapolice

@Duchy179 @reginapolice Distracted driving is the second leading cause of accidents with injuries or death, just behind impaired driving. The $ means nothing, we don't have a quota on that at all. The ticket could be $5 and I would still focus on that.
