I’ll say it… I have no clue who George Gervin is or was in regard to basketball. 🏀 I’m not the biggest NBA fan but I’ve never even heard of him before all of this “Iceman” nonsense. Not sure why the uproar in regards to Caleb Williams attempting to make a business decision that it sounds like Gervin should have attempted before. Williams, his family and his business team owe nothing to Gervin. Go get your paper if you can!

Lots of young NBA fans don’t understand how the rule changes and spacing unlock so many moves for the offense. Here is a breakdown by Thinking Basketball on how rules and spacing have made offense much easier than 20+yrs ago with video evidence proceeding it using early 2000’s Tracy McGrady vs Luka. The league effectively banned handchecking in 2004-05 and perimeter players stats skyrocketed. Gather plus 2 steps wasn’t truly added until 2009 and throughout the 2000’s it was sometimes allowed but sometimes not. And before the 2000’s, a full gather wasn’t allowed and anything that looked off was called for travel. Tracy McGrady Plays: 1. Little spacing 2. Not allowed a full gather step 3. Not allows a euro, pinoy or pause step as result of a full gather not guaranteed 4. No using off arm to create space 5. Had to be more explosive to get past his handchecking defender 6. McGrady had to get airborne sooner into a more crowded paint or rim Luka plays: 1. Lots more spacing 2. Almost no rim protection with lanes, pain and rim less congested 3. Full gather guaranteed and unlocked euro, pinoy and pause step to help get around defender 4. Absolutely no handchecking in 2020 5. Doesn’t need McGrady’s explosion to get past his defender who can’t handcheck. 6. Luka uses his off arm to keep defender at a distance and then uses that gather step to create more space for the shot with no rim protector around Not even fully discussed in the video is the ability for dribblers to push defenders to create even more space. You can see Luka in 2020 footage using that off arm to keep defenders at a distance but in 2026 they just push defenders to create that space
