Metallica's Black Album was released on August 12, 1991. It is the band's 5th studio album and one of the best-selling and most influential albums in the history of metal, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide. After four increasingly complex and lengthy thrash metal albums (Kill ’Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice for All), the band decided to change course. They wanted shorter, more direct, heavier, and more accessible songs to better connect with the live audience. To achieve this, they hired producer Bob Rock, known for more commercial sounds, which sparked a lot of controversy among thrash fans. The recording took nearly nine months in Los Angeles and was very tense. It cost around $1.2 million. Bob Rock forced the band to play tighter together live and suggested changes and harmonies. There were heated arguments; three members got divorced during production. The cover is almost entirely black, with the Metallica logo in the corner and a barely visible snake. That’s why it’s known as the “Black Album.” The album debuted at number 1 on the U.S. charts and turned Metallica into superstars. Singles like “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven,” “Sad but True,” and “Wherever I May Roam” received massive airplay on the radio and MTV. It is the best-selling metal album of all time and opened the genre up to a much wider audience in the 1990s. Although some purist fans criticized it for being more commercial, for the band it was a necessary evolution that took them to the next level. It remains one of their most important albums and a rock classic.

"We're not Gonna Take it" by Twisted Sister. Love this song!!
Old School 80s@OldSchool80s

Can you guess the #80s song title & artist from this lyric? "Your life is trite and jaded, boring and confiscated. If that's your best, your best won't do." Hint it was a hit song from an album released on this day in 1984. Bonus points for answers with GIF.
