🇷🇺🇺🇸Touching and meaningful event on May 15 at the U.S. Navy Memorial Visitor Center to honor USS “Wahoo”, a nemesis of the Japanese fleet in World War II, that was tragically hit and sunk on October 11, 1943 in the vicinity of Sakhalin Island. Russian Geographical Society explorers together with People of the Sea Foundation, sponsored by Fertoing Company, while searching for the Red Army/Navy submarine L19, downed by enemy fire in August 1945, found the wreckage of “Wahoo”, a model of which is now presented to the U.S. side with samples of water and soil from the seabed where USS now lies. Ambassador Darchiev stressed the importance for Russia and the U.S. to pay tribute to fallen heroes and not to allow that memory of common fight against evil forces of Germany and Japan, as well as enormous sacrifice it required be forgotten or obliterated. Long live Russia-U.S. comradeship-in-arms in crushing German and Japanese war machines!

🇷🇺🇺🇸 In commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russian compatriots living in the United States and concerned Americans held a series of memorial events. They laid wreaths and flowers at memorial sites dedicated to the immortal feat of the Soviet people and the heroic Red Army, which broke the back of Hitler’s war machine in combat brotherhood with the USA and the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition: • the ALSIB heroes memorial in Fairbanks, Alaska; • Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska - the graves of Soviet pilots and sailors who participated in ferrying aircraft to the USSR under the Lend-Lease program; • the monument to Soviet soldiers in Plummer Park, Los Angeles, and the memorial bench in Lincoln Park, San Francisco, California, honoring warriors who fell in World War II battles; • the memorial stone to Red Army soldiers in Beaverton, Oregon, where more than 150 bricks engraved with the names of Soviet veterans have been laid in the park complex; • the burial site of Red Navy sailor M.I.Anisimov at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, Washington; • in Washington, D.C. - the “Spirit of the Elbe” bas-relief and the “Murmansk” inscription dedicated to the Allied Arctic convoys. Following a cherished tradition, activists of the Russian diaspora organized “Immortal Regiment” processions, motorcades, the “St. George’s Ribbon” campaign, meetings with veterans, film screenings, and festive concerts in the states of Washington, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, and Texas. In Florida, they opened the thematic exhibition “We Remember, We Are Proud, We Honor!”, where one of the halls in a Miami bookstore recreated the chronicle of the war years with displays of copies of Soviet publications from 1941–1945. 🎖 We thank everyone who reverently, proudly, and boldly honors the memory of the Soviet soldier-liberator, who saved the world from the brown plague, and refuses to let the combat alliance of our countries during the grim years of the war be forgotten — an alliance that is especially relevant today for normalizing Russian-American relations and for our joint struggle against manifestations of Nazism in modern Europe. Wonderful reception at the Embassy on May 7th to celebrate #Victory Day over Nazi Germany #May9th in the Great Patriotic War! Among hundreds of guests, including diplomatic community, U.S. Administration officials, Russian compatriots, there were several Red Army and U.S. Army veterans, who fought together against common enemy more than 80 years ago. As Ambassador Darchiev stressed, it is impermissible to rewrite history and deny genocide of the Soviet people who paid enormous price to crush the backbone of the Hitlerite war machine. Russia and the U.S. must not allow hot-headed politicians in Europe to toy again with new “crusade to the East” encouraging pro-Nazi regime in Kiev to send more and more Ukrainians to the frontline as “cannon fodder”. It was also reminded that no one of those who gave their lives for freedom and independence of our beloved Motherland will be forgotten and no Nazi crime will be forgiven, so that the tragic day of June 22, 1941 will not repeat itself. Great event at the Embassy on May 6th to honor upcoming Victory Day! Employees and their family members, Russian compatriots, and guests from former Soviet republics planted lilac bushes in the Garden of Remembrance and took part in a symbolic Immortal Regiment march on the Russian diplomatic compound, carrying wartime photos of their loved ones and relatives who fought in the ranks of the Red Army that crushed the backbone of the German war machine.
