📢 On January 22, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will visit #Davos, at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump), to attend the signing ceremony of the Charter of the Board of Peace.
⚡️ President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev:
“In diplomacy, the cost of a wrong decision is extremely high and can cause serious damage to the long-term interests of the state.
We know this from our own experience. In the economic sphere, one program or concept can be replaced by another, which unfortunately happens quite often. However, signatures on international treaties are usually final and cannot be withdrawn. What is written once cannot be undone.
In our view, diplomacy is a key – indeed, an indispensable – tool for achieving compromise and mutual understanding. It is not a path that leads to conflict or confrontation.”
⚡️ President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev:
“We are witnessing the emergence of entirely new phenomena, requiring both our generation and those that follow to adapt.
In other words, what until recently seemed inconceivable or even impossible is now becoming a new norm and part of everyday reality.
We are observing the erosion of international law and a deepening crisis of trust on the international stage.
Global military expenditures have reached a record level of nearly three trillion dollars and may double by 2035.
The growing militarization undermines the efforts of the international community to build a just world order.
Under these challenging conditions, the importance of foreign policy is increasing. It must be as balanced as possible and aimed at safeguarding and advancing the strategic interests of our state.”
