@ThatDude_Kevo @ERSANlTY @MearsMeerkat He didn't pick Brogdon and he traded tons of picks to make marginal upgrades. Of his 6 1st rounds picks, he has two picks that were obviously terrible at the time of the draft with DJ Wilson over OG Anunoby and AJ Johnson over anyone.

@WisDemGov2018 @MKEBucksCat No, Denver doesn’t need a TPE. The trade works. Watson can sign a 4y/$110m contract via sign-and-trade with the Bucks, and the Nuggets can take back Green and JJJ.

@MKEBucksCat I think this is wrong. I thing Green or Jacques have to also be going into a TPE, which Denver does not have. The longer this goes on, the more likely I think that is the trade but it won’t happen until September 6 (60 days after Giannis trade and right before training camp)

I don’t see how the Milwaukee Bucks realistically get Peyton Watson. There’s two reasons for my skepticism: 1. Milwaukee has the salary matching, the issue is it doesn’t fit for Denver alone. It’s 100% a multi team deal. Kuzma, AJ Green, Kevin Porter Jr., that’s the group of players because Milwaukee is going to take in $28M-$30M from Watson. Even with a multi team deal it gets messy. 2. Is Milwaukee going to just trade all the draft capital they got for Giannis for Peyton Watson? Essentially that’s what they’re doing. They don’t have any much future draft capital to give Denver besides the MIA picks.

@sage_alex So the Bucks trade a solid player for a non-rotation player, and they increase their payroll by $9 million/year to do it? No thanks.

@WisDemGov2018 @fmaddenNBA You don’t have to aggregate them. Watson will go into the $25.5m TPE from the Giannis trade. The outgoing salary is just to keep the Bucks under the tax.

There’s challenges to Bucks making a play here (including being only $11m under tax after GTJ, Watson being BYC, DEN’s apron limitations, DEN probably wanting a Kessler-type haul), but I guess it’s plausible that Jaquez, AJ Green, salary relief, and draft capital of some kind could be interesting to DEN.

The Bucks have reportedly emerged as a team trying to “pry away” Peyton Watson from the Nuggets, per @TheSteinLine

Bill Simmons talking about the NBA: “The second apron that they put in is having so many ramifications for team building, player building. And they did this to basically protect the owners, so everybody could make more money. All of these things are smart financial moves. But I don’t think any of these things have made the NBA better. Because they’re making business decisions and not league decisions. Adam Silver’s job is to elevate the league and make money, has he elevated the league this decade?” Harsh words for the commish.

@kvngcarl24 @BucksShowYo You can’t throw in a bad contract without attaching assets. You’re thinking of his contract as an expiring and not a 4 year albatross.

@RussBrick44 @BucksShowYo You’re thinking of him as the main player in the trade no lol he’s the throw in player. The kind of player to make a trade work. Also bucks HAVE to spend money they had too much

Okay let’s think about this from the Bucks perspective: - Gary Trent Jr is 27 years old, Doc Rivers was the coach, team offense was atrocious, we are banking on him being better (which he def can be) - There is already sources on record saying he’s shown the rookies around, gotten them used to the city, he is a good veteran presence. - He was our 2nd best playoff performer next to Giannis in 2025. Two 30 point games cannot be discounted. - There’s upside to him being a trade option at the deadline either as a player for a team that needs spacing OR as an attached salary Still not a good contract but I don’t think it comes near the “worst in NBA history” ones such as Brad Beal

@NotionsofNick @TCIIIESQ21 @itsjwills If you make a deal with someone and don’t honor your end of the bargain, they will no longer trust you, so I agree. It’s Horst’s fault for making the deal in 2025, not for honoring it when the time comes.

I get that a promise was made and you don’t want to make an enemy of Klutch but this is ridiculous. It’s also their most loaded position. Now you either have that contract rotting on the bench or you are forced to play him over talent you need to develop and players that are better than him.
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania

Free agent guard Gary Trent Jr. has agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton tells ESPN.

@Bucks_Breakdown Just let him rot on the bench. He's not good and the team won't be good. It's not worth trading 2 1st round picks to get off the contract. When there are 1 or 2 years left on the deal, we can trade him.

KPJ and Green aside. This is probably way more of an issue. You shouldnt be paying him 64M to sit the bench... sooo that means you're now working him into that already deep guard rotation?? insane work
Cooper L. Goede@CooperGoede

@Bucks_Breakdown Horst had to of given Rich Paul a handshake agreement for him signing back to back vet min deals with us. Either way you can bet your bottom dollar that one of KPJ and Green is being moved this summer.

@Sam_Vecenie See i totally understand that and there’s GOTTA be something fishy going on Saying that though, wouldn’t the best punishment they could receive… simply be having to pay Gary Trent jr 4 years 64 mill?

@ericbshaw @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 The owners would agree to the exact same number if there was no cap, yes. Because it's the revenue split that determines the cap, not the other way around.

@RussBrick44 @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 I get all that. And you're crazy if you think the owners would negotiate / agree to the same exact number if there was no cap. They wouldn't. Salary caps are a win for owners not labor. If the owners were to give that up they'd be taking something with them.

@NotionsofNick @TCIIIESQ21 @itsjwills He didn't force the Bucks to do anything. Horst illegally offered Trent 5 years, $67m in the 2025 offseason, through a 1 year minimum + a 4y/64m contract. Now he's honoring the agreement.

@ericbshaw @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 "Without a cap you think the owners would be happy with the same percentage as with a cap?" The owners would pay the same exact % of their revenue to the players without a cap, so they obviously wouldn't care in regard to the fictional "paying extra" you're talking about.

@RussBrick44 @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 Without a cap you think the owners would be happy with the same percentage as with a cap? 😂 That shit ain't happening. They give up a little extra to the players because of the cap. Take the cap away and they wouldn't be happy with the same number. It's give and take.

@ericbshaw @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 The cap doesn't affect the percentage at all. The percentage is fixed. Players aren't paid the salary figure that's publicly reported. They're paid a proportionate amount of total spending, given their reported salary and the league's total basketball related revenue.

@RussBrick44 @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 My guy I get that literally the revenue percentage is what pays the players. That's not in a vacuum to itself though. Having a cap or not effects the percentage. They work in concert. Dynamics of the % amount change with or without a cap.

@ericbshaw @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 If they removed the salary cap, the players would still receive the exact same percentage of revenue as they do now, as negotiated. The difference is that some teams would pay a disproportionately higher/lower % instead of it being spread evenly.

@RussBrick44 @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 You can have parity with out a salary cap. It would call for every owner to competitively go after players and SPEND! They obviously don't want to do that so they cap it. You're really arguing that salary caps aren't pro owner? 😭💀

@ShamsCharania He's obviously not playable, but you have to pay him what was agreed to after making the handshake deal in 2025. His contract is still not a good reason to give him minutes. He still needs to collect DNPs behind the younger, better, more promising guards on the team.
