@spyced I feel like I have hit this with multiple concurrent collections that use optimistic locking in their "ifAbsent" methods. It has definitely made me more cautious about what code I include in the ifAbsent function.

TIL that while ConcurrentHashMap::computeIfAbsent ensures that the supplier function is only called at most once per key, this is specific to CHM and not part of the ConcurrentMap contract. In particular, ConcurrentSkipListMap makes no such guarantee.

@jaceklaskowski I'm not sure how you would get different behavior if the logical plans are the same. In my example they also have identical physical plans so if there is some extra deserialization in there it isn't clear in the debug where that would be.

@RussSpitzer The message says it's a TypedColumn so there can be an extra deserialization. Didn't check that out. Logical plans won't show it, right?

#TIL It is recommended to use count with a Column (not a "pure" String). Do you know why?! 🤔 I did not...till now 😏 (found in the sources of #DeltaLake, and #IntelliJIDEA explained why I shouldn't remove "Column" that I considered superfluous! 😆)
