Whilst acknowledging that Newcastle were the better team and would probably have won anyway, let’s talk about VAR referring the ref to the monitor for a possible penalty. The var watched it for 2 minutes before deciding to refer it to the ref then the ref had to watch it several times before changing his mind, does that really smack of a clear and obvious error? No it doesn’t, had the penalty been given I wouldn’t have expected an overturn so why did var not follow the clear and obvious guidelines. Smacks of double standards to me but then again that’s nothing new.Howard Webb has made no difference to the shambolic standards of the pgmol
