500 cinemas or nothing. That’s the British film market right now and not enough people are saying it out loud 🧵 The DVD market is gone. Streamers aren’t picking up the load. The mid-level theatrical release that used to give a British film a quiet run just doesn’t really exist. So when we’re developing, when we’re writing, there’s only one question that matters. Will people get off the sofa for this? Is it an event? Does it feel zeitgeisty? Is there a built in audience? Because if the answer is no, it’s not ready. That’s not selling out. That’s the job. Think commercially. Think theatrically. Start there. Every time.
