Read an utterly cursed manual this morning, for a gadget full of demonic software cruft, and it made apparent one reason manuals are poorly written, which is this: there's no coherent audience.

Manuals are poorly written for many other reasons. Also they’re not actually knowledge documents, their real purpose is legal shields: "If you didn’t do it this way it’s your fault, you can’t sue us."
