Important to consider the impact this will have on young people's mental health - research suggests families' overall health is better when parents are in work (job quality dependent) so supporting those on long-term sick leave could have a big indirect impact for their children.
Torsten Bell@TorstenBell

Britain has a bigger but sicker workforce than we previously thought. Headline from new @ONS data this morning. 2.8m people not working because of ill health = record high.

Check out a blog I wrote for the fab @KetsoLtd about my experience of using Ketso in community workshops for the Supporting Young Bradford Project with @BiBresearch - a study about how families' working lives have indirect impacts for children and young peoples' #mentalhealth

3/3 "It’s up to reporters to continue highlighting the gap between the promises made and what’s actually been delivered. In the case of Windrush, that gap remains strikingly wide."

3/3 Given the benefits my families are describing of having regular time together after school & at weekends, it's not surprising that 72% of working mothers view employers who offer family-friendly benefits more positively. Check out health.org.uk/funding-and-pa… for more @HealthFdn

2/3 The teenage years are still a really important time for continued input & availability of parents & working hours which mean parents aren't around for their children can have big impacts for children's mental health, leaving them feeling unsupported.

1/3This new report from @fawcettsociety points to some really clear workplace practices that could make a big diff for working parents. My research with families and teens shows flexibility is still crucial & could have a big impact on gender inequality. fawcettsociety.org.uk/Handlers/Downl…

I had a fab time at #BiBFest2023 Our 'Family Support Tree' went from bare to a summer display of people that the young people feel supported by 🍃🌳 It was great sharing a stall with @DrRuthWadman and Olivia Taylor, and lovely to meet so many fab young people and practitioners 🙌

Good to see the call to abolish the unfair and inadequate under 25 Universal Credit rate. Draws on our research with young people - over £70 a month less because of their age, but bills and food cost the same. stbasils.org.uk/living-or-surv… @CRSP_LboroUni @Ruth__Webber @donaldhirsch

@amy_creaser @Ruth__Webber @TheJihadulHaque It was a fabulous turnout. More people turned up than we could accommodate which shows how much interest there is in the community for this work. Plus it was people from so many different backgrounds. Brilliantly delivered by the team and had really helpful feedback.
