For teachers to be “All In” in 2023 doesn’t mean they have to be at school til 7 every night. Doesn’t mean they need to take school work home with them every night. Doesn’t mean they need to work every weekend w/ planning or grading. This isn’t All In, this is Burned Out.

Slide from Wiley Blevins at the TRL WI Conference. Teaching too many whole words from the jump activates the wrong side of the brain for reading. It’s not philosophical, it’s science. Teach kids to sound out words.

If a child couldn’t swim, would you chuck them in the deep end to “figure it out”?
No.
They would definitely hate water in top of everything else.
Get them used to the water, teach them how to swim, and praise them for their successes.
