So I’m hearing that members of the cabinet are gearing up to tell PM the game is up. Comes as a succession of PPS’s resign/call for him to stand down. They keep coming

Exc: Row breaks out among 2024 Labour MPs over whether to challenge Keir Starmer, leaked WhatsApps reveal. Natasha Irons: "Bottom line, changing leader because Nigel Farage has forced us to is not something any of us can come back from. Anyone who thinks we can needs to wake up." Peter Lamb: "Anyone who thinks this is sustainable needs an MRI." Laurence Turner: "We get enough insults on our socials. Let's leave them out here." Nesil Caliskan - a whip - says: "This is really rude."

With respect to Catherine West, leadership contests and public ultimatums are not what the country needs right now. The public expects government to govern, not endless internal theatrics. The priority should be getting on with the job the British people elected Labour to do.

'I will put my name forward to stand for the leader of the Labour party' Labour MP Catherine West tells #BBCPM that she will begin a leadership election on Monday morning if the cabinet doesn't elect a leader amongst themselves.

@hzeffman @BBCPM @BBCRadio4 You stupid stupid woman...now is the time to rally around Starmer, learn from the mistakes and go forward. You are playing into arms of the Nazis/Reform party along with the right wing media and where do you think Labour will end up...on the sidelines once again for years !!

I'm not saying Starmer is universally beloved but this view that he is generally "despised" is just projection. Hodges and most of his friends in the media hate the PM, so he figures everybody else must too.
(((Dan Hodges)))@DPJHodges

Going to say it again. It's impossible to accurately assess the state of British politics until Starmer goes. He is not simply unpopular. He is despised to an extent I have never seen before, and can't personally rationalise. But he represents a uniquely distorting prism.

@clarkyboi97 @elle__micht @PolitlcsUK Yeah but Hull was always going to be super tough for Lib Dems. They're a party known for leafy, affluent suburbs and southern England. The fact they're even in office in Hull is a mystery it's prime reform territory and they mostly held their own. It was a majority of like one

@ZoeJardiniere Because pushing people to the right of politics and disenchanting them with the left is a greaaaast strategy for Labour long term!

As ever, there is no need to wonder why Labour has attacked the Greens so much harder than Reform over the last weeks. It’s to the Greens their vote is moving. The real question is when they’ll realise they could respond by moving left, not stamping on the left 🤷‍♀️

Hearing from multiple Labour sources all agreed on one thing: it's even worse than feared. When you underperform the lowest of expectations, you're in trouble.

I think the 83% figure could sharply reduce when London comes in, assuming per Wandsworth the rate is lower. But then the Greens could maul Labour at the same rate Reform has... tbc
LabourList@LabourList

03:00am : Labour has lost 83% of sitting councillors so far. At five hours after close of polls, Labour are calculated to have lost 83% of sitting councillors declared so far according to James Crouch of Opinium. @EmmaBurnell_ , Editor of LabourList says “This is a long night with a long way to go, but there is no denying this doesn’t just look bad – it looks terrible. Labour are losing heartland seats to Reform across the country. With most of London set to count votes tomorrow, we don’t yet know how much we will lose to Greens. “Labour is going to have to have a long hard look at what it is getting wrong.” LIVE UPDATES HERE: labourlist.org/2026/05/live-u…
