As Edward Daniel Clarke (Travels in Various Countries, 19th c.) observed, the Macedonians were « of the same race as the nation now called Albanians, » who « have preserved their manners, customs, and language. »
Not conjecture,
but continuity, recorded.

@romanhelmetguy "That extra money should go to the American people" That level of delusion
English

Do it. Apply an export tariff. US oil producers are making an insane amount of money from this war. That extra money should go to the American people. And I don’t want to hear any complaints about the ‘free market.’ Bombing a country already counts as a market intervention.

@LorenaDoberus "Illyrians? Yes sure, they lived from modern Slovenia all the way down to Greece, all the same people, the same tribe, the same language, ONE PEOPLE, so much history)."
"Greeks? Noooo, only on Peloponnes, maybe Thessaly too.
Pardon? The Minoans? They also weren't greek haha."
English

Greek was the lingua franca of trade, used by Thracians, Macedonians, and Epirotes. None of them were Greek.

@ilirisht I understand the issue. But I also don't know the history between Serbs and Albanians well enough to make a judgement, beyond that they came later, which we all know. If they were our neighbours, maybe we'd also been at war with them. It's not like we didn't fight the bulgars too
English

@ilirisht Yes, but that's the religion itself that it proclaims. Besides, you spoke of racism. Isn't that racist, or why can I call him not my brother? Personally, I wouldn't even call another greek my brother. I really dislike that "bro-culture". Those muslims chose to be Turks.

@ilirisht Because it is submission. It is submission to the God you believe in. And it's theoretically even more so for Muslims, considering what the term "Islam" LITERALLY means. I don't know why you're 45% muslims still to this day if it means nothing to you? What for? As an insurance?
English

@ilirisht We know Arvanites were about 20% of the population. And furthermore, it's even more dumb to expect a revival of the old culture. They knew Greeks were Christian. They themselves were Christian. It's appropriation. We had that talk. The west wants hellenic culture to be western
English

@ilirisht I guess the translations are off/bad. It translated what you said to cultured. Or you used the word cultured for tolerant with the assessment, that being tolerant means cultured.
Religion can't be personal, when it's a cult. When you form a group, institutions etc.
English

@ilirisht And btw I also dislike looking down or talking down on people based on culture, except when something is really stupid in that specific culture. But to claim albanians are more cultured is... I don't know, I don't think many will agree with you. Neither past nor modern albanians
English

@ilirisht Even back then, how could you become a Turk? You can't change your ethnicity. And most Turks weren't ethnically Turkic (Asian) anyways, at least late into the empire. So it was mostly converts (like some greeks), assimilated (anatolians), or stolen (Janissaries). It was a culture
