Security engineering isn’t one job. It’s a mix of different disciplines solving different problems. From DART, to InfraSec, AppSec, CorpSec (and more!) - each plays a unique role. Most teams blur the lines, especially early on. But understanding the differences is how you figure out where you fit. - #cybersecurity #career #tech #ai #careeradvice

If I were trying to break into Cybersecurity today, these are the 3 things I would tell myself 🤓💻

@wcpreston And layers aren't just about blocking. Each one is a detection opportunity too - the fence stops some threats, but the sidewalk tells you someone's approaching. That's where real defense-in-depth starts.

Security is all about layers. It's like building a house: you need a yard, a sidewalk, a curb, and a fence. Each layer helps identify and slow down potential threats before they reach their target. #CyberSecurity #InfoSec

I’m opening up DefendTheOrg for beta. A small group of testers will get early access to hands-on labs across detection engineering, threat hunting, security ops, and incident response - all built around what defenders actually do. This is about real feedback from real practitioners before launch. If you want in, join the waitlist or drop a comment - I'll be selecting people at random! - #cybersecurity #tech #ai

You don’t learn incident response by reading about it. You learn it by being thrown into the fire when something breaks. That’s why I built incident response labs into DefendTheOrg - real scenarios where you analyze evidence, make decisions, and drive the investigation forward. Because in the real world, it’s not about being perfect. It’s about responding effectively. If you want to practice the job, not just study it, follow along and join the waitlist.

Even though it’s called “Claude Code” - it’s real strength is in operations. This is how I’m currently setting up claude in my projects. How does it compare to how you’re currently using claude?

If you’re early in your career, it’s easy to feel like you need to know everything. You don’t. What actually matters is how you learn, how you show up, and how you grow over time. These are the lessons I wish I understood sooner - the ones that compound over years, not weeks.

Macbook 🤝 Airpods I was all about windows up until about 5 years ago (except for on mobile). The workflow on Mac is simply just more fluid and you can’t argue with convenience of the apple ecosystem. Plus, can we just appreciate how good that trackpad is.

Most people know about MITRE ATT&CK. Few actually think in it. I’m building a module in DefendTheOrg to change that. These scenario-based logic puzzles train you to map real situations to tactics and techniques. You don’t need to memorize the framework. You need to think like it. If you want to sharpen that skill, follow along and join the waitlist.

I often have to remind myself that I’m living in a bubble - a bubble where the people I interact with, both in person and online, are up to speed with AI. But the reality is that most people aren’t. We still need to demystify agentic AI so people who have never opened a terminal can actually benefit with it. As I’ve been setting up my own agent ecosystem with Claude Code - it’s made me think about scalablity and simplicity. How could something like this be packaged up into a framework to pass to the SMB market. Because the tools are here. But what’s missing is accessibility. A simple, scalable framework for the masses to create their own agents. That's a problem worth solving.

“Is this a real threat?” - That question is what security operations is all about. Monitoring alerts, finding evidence, and making the call. I’m building this exact workflow into DefendTheOrg so you can practice it with real scenarios, real logs, and real pressure. If you want to get better at the job - not just learn about it - the waitlist is live at defendtheorg[.]com!

Just 3–4 years ago, software engineering looked very different. When I Started My Career, I was writing everything by hand. AI became just a co-pilot a couple years: Ask questions, Get answers. But I still had to stitch everything together myself. A Couple Years Ago, AI moved into the IDE. It could write code and understand context, but it still couldn’t build anything substantial on its own. And now, I’m managing multiple agents at once - Tasks running in parallel. I read ~98% of the code and only write ~2%. Mostly just giving instructions in plain English. But is software engineering dead? Is SaaS dead? Not even close. The way we build has changed, but the fundamentals still matter more now than ever to build scalable, secure software.

Everyone says to learn threat hunting, and almost nobody gives you a place to practice it. That’s why I’m building threat hunting labs into DefendTheOrg: Real scenarios, real logs, and hunts that get harder as you go. If you want to actually build the skill, not just read about it - join the waitlist so you don't miss the DTO launch! - #cybersecurity #ai #tech #threathunting #siem

What is Security Incident Response? Its a structured process security teams follow during security incidents to identify the threat, contain the damage, remove the attacker, and restore systems. It's operational. It's strategic. And it's high pressure. The faster you detect. The faster you respond. And the less damage is done. - #cybersecurity #incidentresponse #tech #ai

Stop collecting certifications. Start building real skills. I’m building DefendTheOrg — a hands-on cybersecurity training platform focused on what defenders actually do: detection engineering, incident response, and threat hunting. Real scenarios. Real data. Write detections that actually work. If you want to get better at the job, not just study for it, follow along and join the waitlist so you don't miss the launch! - #cybersecurity #saas #developer #ai #tech
