I think the biggest boost to productivity from eliminating interprovincial trade barriers will come from all the time we save from no longer talking about interprovincial trade barriers.

Canada is one of the world’s most open economies, yet its internal market remains fragmented. Knocking down internal trade barriers could boost output by 7%, delivering gains worth roughly C$210 billion. More in our Country Focus article. imf.org/en/news/articl…

@evansammccann You are right to flag the significance of Canadian business history. I’m president of the Canadian Business History Association, a small but mighty group trying to tackle the problem you identify. Would you be willing to connect?

Was on @CBCNews yesterday to digest Nov 19th's pan-Canadian internal trade minister's meeting in Yellowknife, as well as Canada's newest internal trade agreement: the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement for goods. Link in comments for my analysis.

Remarkable survey results from this week’s @the_logic summit. Pairs well w/ historical context from @jdmstewart1’s new book (e.g Laurier & AK/BC border dispute, 1903 - “We are living beside a great neighbour who…are determined…to get the best in any agreement which they make”)
