In most cases this still results in an absolute rate decrease and if you include inflation this is functionally a City tax decrease since the City’s buying power is falling behind even a low inflation increase.

@fitanfree @KHQLocalNews Assessed values are functionally unrelated to this increase because property tax revenue is a revenue target not a rate. The amount you pay will only change if your property is assessed higher or lower than the average increase. Hope that makes sense.

@prerunner74 @KHQLocalNews This is only accurate if your house is incrementally 5% more valuable than all others. The property tax is a revenue target not a rate. So if all properties increase at approximately the same rate, your personal tax rate actually goes down (and the total you pay stays about flat)

@KHQLocalNews So if your annual property tax is currently $2,000 in ten years that 1% cumulatively becomes $2,209. And if the County decides to increase your property value an average of 5% annually that $2,000 becomes $3,599 in ten years. A nice double whammy on the home you “own.”
