Viktor Orbán called himself the Kremlin’s “mouse” and promised to do everything to help Russia — even Putin was surprised by such flattery
According to Bloomberg, citing a transcript of the conversation, the Hungarian prime minister offered assistance to Putin on any issue.
“Yesterday our friendship reached such a high level that I can help with anything. In any matter where I can be useful, I am at your service,” Orbán said.
He even referred to a fable about a mouse and a lion, where the weak saves the strong, saying he is ready to be that “mouse” for Russia.
Putin laughed, after which they exchanged pleasantries, with the Russian dictator praising Budapest’s “independent and flexible” stance on the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, a recording also surfaced of Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó speaking with Sergey Lavrov, in which the Hungarian diplomat was heard reporting to the Russian side in a notably deferential manner.
