@aobrienfansite Annamix finished 9th in last year’s Grand National. His granddam Tashtiya was a daughter of Shergar. Michael Mulvany has a horse called Ribee who’s due to run at Naas on Sunday and his great great granddam is also Tashtiya

I really enjoyed the first part of Virgin Media's Shergar documentary—it was a heartbreaking story that still resonates years later. The tragedy got me wondering whether any modern racehorses carry Shergar in their pedigrees. From what I could find, his male line (as a sire) died out quickly due to limited progeny and lack of successful stallions, and it seems his broodmare influence (through daughters) has faded almost entirely too. After some digging, one horse that appears to be among the very last (if not the absolute last) with Shergar in its pedigree is Bellera, who last raced in 2022.Of course, my research wasn't exhaustive, so I could be off on the details—happy to be corrected if there's more recent info or another horse still carrying his bloodlines!
