We were there to recruit another prospect. Coach pulled a kid out of class: “I got another one I really like.” Had height, just needed more time in the weight room. Played hard on film. Looked like a project. We signed him late. He grew into 300… Wound up playing in the NFL. One offer. You never know. Evaluation and projection matter.

PSA I'm going on about a week straight where I've gotten a DM every single day from someone asking to vote for them to co-host a podcast Friendly reminder to NOT click on those links. Tons of good folks - from HS coaches to P4 coordinators - getting hacked that way.

With the state of Florida being so talented rich all over the high school level, it's ashame they don't have JUCO Football.

Recruiting reality: Highlight film shows what a player did. College coaches watch it to see what a player is. Speed/Quickness Size Balance/Movement Power/Strength Change of direction Traits predict. Stats don’t.

A lot of college opportunities start with a high school coach who believes in his player. He pushes the film. He drives the kid to camps. He makes the calls. That work rarely gets attention. But it changes careers.

I get asked this a lot: “What level can he play at?” That’s different from: “What level will recruit him first?” I’ve coached JUCO and D2 national championship teams loaded with Division I players. Now, with the portal, the first opportunity isn’t the ceiling. Development and fit decide a career’s path.

I don’t know who need to hear this but I promise you all those drills and exercises you doing won’t get you faster… Only SPRINTING gets you faster. The drills and the weight room are a supplement to the Track/Football Field I mean this by saying If you play a skill position, get yo ass on the track in the offseason… Only if you wanna play a long time 🤷🏾‍♂️

Recruiting reality most families never hear: A college coach can often tell in the first 6–8 clips of a highlight film whether a player projects at his level. That doesn’t mean the player isn’t good. It means projection matters in recruiting. That’s why honest evaluation early matters.

A lot of recruiting opportunities start with a high school coach advocating for one of his players. Making calls. Driving kids to camps. Pushing their film to the right programs. That work doesn’t get much attention. But it changes lives.
