In Madrid tonight for the derby, my son proudly wearing his Sheffield Wednesday shirt, a badge of history, pride and what once was. I think of the days of Hirst, Waddle, Sheridan, when we stood toe to toe with Europe’s best and believed we belonged. Against this calibre of opponent, we didn’t just dream, we competed. Now we are a million miles from that. The real heartbreak is that in his entire lifetime he has never seen Wednesday in the Premier League. Years of mismanagement have taken that away from a generation and right now it feels no closer to changing. Still, the shirt, the history, the hope, they endure. 🦉 #swfc

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

I've stayed quiet over the past few weeks on the takeover, because I feel a great sense of empathy for those local businesses and suppliers, ordinary people, who are exposed as unsecured creditors. Who will bear the brunt of the decision to not pay back 25p in the £. It's very easy to say the EFL should allow us off the hook next year, but a scenario where ordinary folk are out of pocket and not even getting back 25p, and then that money being put into the football club, is tough. I think people hate DC that much, and rightly so, but don't lose sight on the ordinary hard working British people exposed in this and will have their lives ruined. I want the absolute best for Sheffield Wednesday, but I can't celebrate or request we are let off in the circumstances.
