When you first start out riding, ride with a buddy. Having a friend nearby has several benefits: 1. You are more visible to others on the road 2. If something goes wrong, there is someone there to help 3. It’s just more fun to share the open road with another rider who can coach you in riding in a safe and smart manner #MotorcycleSafetyMonth

Make the responsible choice. Never drive impaired or ride with someone who has any drinks or drugs in their system.

You wouldn’t put a Little League player in to pitch a high school game, so why would you attempt to operate a motorcycle outside of your skill range? Give yourself time and practice riding before adding on more horsepower. #MotorcycleSafetyMonth

Picking the right gear for riding is just as important as picking the right bike (stay tuned for next week’s post on that topic)! Choose gear that protects your body with a full-face helmet, sturdy jacket (bonus points if it is a bright color with reflective decals), gloves, and over the ankle boots. #MotorcycleSafetyMonth

Temperatures rise quickly as soon as you shut off your engine. Always lock your car so no kid can get in and become trapped. Check your back seat to make sure no kid is accidentally left behind. If you see a child alone in a vehicle, call 911.

In honor of motorcyclist safety month, we’ll have safe riding tips for you each Monday in May. Tip #1: Get schooled! Take a rider training course to level up skills like braking, cornering, and strategic lane positioning. #MotorcycleSafetyMonth

Unless you are a professional storm chaser, you should not be on the road trying to get pictures for your social media. If you find yourself in a vehicle and see a tornado approaching, find cover in a nearby building. Stopping under a bridge is NOT safe because wind speeds increase in those areas.

Know the Kansas laws about riding a motorcycle – here are 3 to start: 1. Your license plate must be clearly visible. 2. If you’re under 18, you must wear a helmet. 3. Lane splitting and filtering are not legal in Kansas. #ShareTheRoad

On average, 24% of kids who die from heatstroke get trapped inside a vehicle — and the majority of these tragedies happen over the weekend. Prevent a tragedy before it happens: ⚫ Always lock your car doors ⚫ Keep keys out of reach

Check your tires to make sure they have adequate tread depth. Anything less than 1/8 of an inch means they need to be replaced.

Speeding may save you a few seconds, but it’ll cost you in the long run. Extra gas, vehicle wear and tear, higher insurance costs, speeding tickets, court fees, etc. will come into play.

Life is not a video game. You only have one life. Using substances that impair your thinking and reaction time reduces your ability to drive safely. #ImpairedDriving
