[ON AIR] MUSIC OF AFRICA: ARTIST APPRECIATION The Bhundu Boys were a Zimbabwean band, active 1983 and 2000, they fused chimurenga music with American rock and roll, disco, country, and pop influences. Their style became known as jit, and is quite popular across Africa, with some international success, and has influenced later groups like Nehoreka and Mokoomba. British world music DJ Andy Kershaw said that at the height of their magical powers they were the single most natural, effortless, catchy pop band I've ever heard", and, BBC's John Peel famously broke down in tears the first time he saw the band perform live. [ON AIR] MUSIC OF AFRICA: SPOT LIGHT NIGERIA The promulgation of the 1999 Constitution stands as the most significant turning point in Nigeria’s post-colonial history, marking the definitive transition from decades of intermittent military juntas to a sustained democratic era known as the Fourth Republic. Issued on 5 May 1999, by the military government of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, this document was designed to restore civilian rule and provide a legal framework for a nation fractured by years of authoritarianism. This turning point sees a rise of youth-driven sound that laid the foundation for modern Afrobeats. 📱: 061 410 4107 📱: 41391 #SAfmMusicOfAfrica w/@Ms_Ndikumana #KnowYourAfrica #sabcnews #Nigeria
