The idea was to degrade the group's fiscal standing and ability to pay salaries, bribe tribes etc. in addition to causing a fuel crisis that would disrupt military logistics and halt economic life. An attack on Kharg and other oil installations would follow a similar logic.

In and of itself, "strategic bombing" only means attacking the enemy's ability to wage and sustain the war. In some contexts, that is more straightforward than in others. In the war against ISIS, the US systematically went after oil infrastructure, refineries, tankers etc.

@tobiaschneider Strategic bombing requires psycho shit to work. Which is why it should be a strategy used only in the most dire circumstances. Unfortunately people keep thinking that in the plan of "1: destroy air defense, 2: destroy nation, 3: win", step 1 is the key and they can skip step 2.

Of course, hitting power plants is psycho shit. It's not about people not being able to watch tv. It's about hospitals, food spoilage, cold chains etc. Bridges can relatively easily be rebuilt. When grids fail, forests get cut and generator mafias emerge, poisoning everything.

The problem for Trump, if you expand military campaign, it won't solve nuclear issue (without separate operation) nor guarantee opening of Hormuz. The problem for Iran, if you keep hitting Gulf states, close straits, it could help regime survive but not end the war.

The IRGC says it used dual-launch pads in its ballistic Khaybar missile attacks on Israel today, for the first time during the war.
In a video, the IRGC wrote on one of the missiles a response to one of Trump’s latest social media posts: “At the White House, being (a) bastard isn’t an insult. It’s a qualification standard."
