Heightened Flooding Risk And Temporary Closure Of Activities In The Garden Route National Park Residents and visitors to the Garden Route National Park are advised to remain on high alert as severe weather conditions increase the risk of flooding across the region. This follows an Orange Level 8 warning issued by the South African Weather Service forecasting prolonged and disruptive rainfall from 5 to 7 May 2026. Rainfall totals of 100–200mm are expected, with higher localised accumulations possible. SANParks Showcases Inclusive Conservation Through Influencer and Media Excursion in Richtersveld National Park The South African National Parks (SANParks) successfully hosted an influencer and media excursion in Richtersveld National Park from 23 to 27 April 2027. Situated in the remote north-western corner of South Africa along the Orange River, Richtersveld National Park forms part of the Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape, globally recognised for its exceptional cultural and environmental significance. SANParks ranger teams recorded significant successes over the long weekend through coordinated operations across key areas of Table Mountain National Park (TMNP). On 23 April 2026, the SANParks K9 Unit, working alongside the Sea, Air, Mountain (SEAM) unit, conducted a targeted night operation in the southern section of the park. The operation focused on suspected abalone poacher camp sweeps and gathering ground intelligence. During patrols between Smitswinkel and Black Rocks, K9s successfully tracked suspects, leading to the apprehension of three individuals.
