🌟 Wednesday Coach Spotlight 🌟 Today we’re highlighting Coach Moore! She leads our High School Cheer program and, although she hasn’t been with us long, she has already made a huge impact on our K-12 cheer program. We are grateful for the work and dedication she has already poured in, and we are excited for what is ahead for our cheerleaders. 💚📣 Who were/are your biggest influences as a coach? “One of my biggest influences was my dance teacher, Kim Morton. She constantly pushed me, and at the time I thought she just didn’t like me. When I finally asked her about it, she told me, ‘If I didn’t believe you were capable of being better, I wouldn’t say anything.’ That completely changed my perspective, and I’ve seen constructive criticism as a compliment ever since. Another major influence was my experience on the Farragut High School dance team. We went through multiple coaches, and during my junior and senior years we didn’t have one, so as captain I led practices. That experience inspired me to get into coaching and shaped my desire to be the coach I wish I had during those years.” What are your favorite aspects of being a coach? “My favorite aspect of coaching is seeing athletes shift from focusing on themselves to truly working for the team, and watching them begin to believe in themselves and each other the way I always have all along.” What are some of your favorite things to do outside of coaching? “When I’m not coaching, I enjoy making candles, walking or running in parks, spending time with my dog, and watching movies or playing video games with my two daughters.” 💚 Coach Moore has already brought great energy, passion, and leadership to our cheer program. We are thankful for the way she is investing in our athletes and look forward to all that is to come under her leadership. 💚 #WeAreSilverdale #CoachSpotlight #SBACheer #Pursuit

But the most significant was Steve Hernandez at the University of Redlands—he always met me where I was and saw me for more than just a ball player.” -What are your favorite aspects of being a coach? “My favorite aspect of coaching is the relationship with the players and watching them come together as a team toward a common goal.” -What are some of your favorite things to do outside of coaching? “Outside of coaching, I love golfing, rooting on my favorite sports teams, and going to the movies!” 💚 Coach Wallau’s passion for investing in young athletes is evident in everything he does. SoCon Fast Break insight... @GoMocsMBB didn’t just snap a four-game @SoConSports skid—they outdueled a Mercer squad breathing down the neck of first place, gutting out a win that proved heart can beat a box score. On paper, Chattanooga should have lost this game ten times over. They allowed Mercer 16 offensive rebounds (to their own 3), committed 29 fouls leading to 43 Mercer free throws, and turned the ball over 17 times. As a former coach, I still look at this and ask, “How?” But this was a game where competitive grit overcame statistical deficits, proving that heart isn’t a measurable metric. Even without starting for the first time all season, Jordan Frison (@jfrison10) provided veteran leadership when it mattered most. With under a minute left and the game on the line, Frison stepped back and drained a cold-blooded three-pointer to give UTC a 76-70 cushion. It was the final blow in his gritty 11-point performance before he fouled out. Local walk-on @houstonholland8 was the offensive spark the Mocs desperately needed. In just his second career start, the former @SBASeahawks star was a flamethrower from deep, going 4-of-5 from three for a career-high 12 points. His back-to-back triples in the first half kept Chattanooga within striking distance when Mercer threatened to pull away. Coach Earl stuck with the lineup that sparked a near-comeback against Furman—Brennan Watkins (@BNiceW23), @TateDarner_, Teddy Washington Jr. (@KidKyrie22), Holland, and Makai Richards. The gamble paid off as four of the five scored in double figures, led by Darner’s career-high 18 points. Darner also posted a team-best +16 rating, proving he was the steady hand through the chaos. Mercer’s strategy was clear—dominate the interior and attack the rim. They made 33 free throws, the second-most by a Mocs opponent in program history. Though they went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half, living at the line kept them in it, with Baraka Okojie and Armani Mighty combining for 21 of those made FTs. The Bears showed they’re a physical force, dominating the glass (34-25) and forcing turnovers. But shooting only 31% from the field (18-of-58) is a tactical issue they must fix—you can’t rely solely on the whistle to win on the road in the SoCon. Chattanooga revealed championship character that had been missing during their slide. By shooting 57.1% in the second half and going 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, they showed they can be lethal when they stop playing tentatively and start being the aggressor. Next Up: February 7th, with Mercer traveling to Samford while Chattanooga hosts The Citadel. 📸: @GoMocsMBB

🌟 Wednesday Coach Spotlight 🌟 Today we’re highlighting Coach Mulligan! She coaches Elementary Girls Basketball and does an incredible job connecting with her athletes on the court—but even more importantly, walking alongside them in their relationship with the Lord. We are so grateful for the lifelong impact she is making on our athletes. 💚🏀 Who were/are your biggest influences as a coach? “So many amazing ones, but my high school softball coach, Coach Couch, and my dad had the most impact. Both pushed me to be the best I could be as a competitor, but also as a follower of Christ. They never let me settle for less than what I was capable of.” What are your favorite aspects of being a coach? “My favorite aspect of being a coach is the relationships built with players. I love the game, but I especially love teaching and coaching them in more areas of life than just basketball.” What are some of your favorite things to do outside of coaching? “I love spending time with my husband and two boys, working out, and shopping.” 💪🛍️ Thank you, Coach Mulligan, for the heart you bring to coaching and the intentional way you invest in our young athletes both on and off the court. 🌟 Wednesday Coach Spotlight 🌟 Today we’re highlighting Coach Belew! He coaches High School Boys Basketball, and we are grateful for the time, energy, and heart he pours into the program and into Silverdale Athletics as a whole. 💚🏀 Who were/are your biggest influences as a coach? “I’ve had a lot of influences as a coach. Moving around the country growing up, I was fortunate to play for many different coaches and experience different coaching styles. My two biggest influences were Coach Jenkins and Coach Woods. Both are followers of Christ and helped put the correct things into perspective. Coach Woods was one of the first transformational coaches I had, which had a huge impact on my high school career.” What are your favorite aspects of being a coach? “I love the ability to connect with athletes beyond the game of basketball. Seeing the relationships our guys have with my kids—especially my son—is really special. It’s fun watching him have so many ‘big brothers.’ Basketball is also a great platform to share the gospel and teach life lessons that will carry beyond high school into adulthood.” What are some of your favorite things to do outside of coaching? “I enjoy spending time with my family and all the activities my kids are involved in—most recently basketball. I also love golfing when I get the chance and being out on the course with some buddies.” ⛳ Thank you, Coach Belew, for your leadership, faith, and commitment to investing in young men on and off the court. We are truly grateful for the time, care, and intentional investment he makes in the lives of our athletes and students. 💚 -Who were/are your biggest influences as a coach? “A lot of my coaches during my playing days in basketball only used me as a means to try and win games. That experience has influenced me to always try to be there for those moments for my players and to help them understand how to grow as young men.” -What are your favorite aspects of being a coach? “I love being a coach so that I can continue to be around the game I love and use it as a platform for individual and team development in all areas of life.” -What are some of your favorite things to do outside of coaching? “I love playing all sports, traveling with my wife, cooking, and working out.” Thank you, Coach Murphy, for your heart for students and your commitment to developing young men both on and off the court and field. 🎄✨ Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Seahawk Athletics! ✨🎄 As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, we are reminded that “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” (Isaiah 9:6). Christmas is a season of hope, joy, and gratitude—truths that guide everything we do on and off the field. As we step into a new year, we thank God for His faithfulness through every practice, competition, victory, and challenge. Our prayer is that we continue to compete with integrity, serve others well, and use athletics as a platform to glorify Him in all things. Wishing our athletes, families, coaches, and community a Christmas filled with peace and a New Year grounded in faith, purpose, and growth. ❤️🏀✝️
