The Palmetto Regiment formed in 1846 to serve in the Mexican War. Fighting throughout the campaign, they were the first American regiment to raise their colors over Mexico City. Attached is a page from a volume of regimental records compiled after the war.

When Major General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, TX with General Order No. 3 in hand on June 19th, 1865, ALL Americans learned of their freedom and today we are grateful for the opportunity to remember and celebrate!

#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion has been celebrated as #Juneteenth — a combination of “June” & “19th” — for over 150 years.
