What an unbelievable waste of time. A council that is massively in debt & struggling to get their finances into balance has surely better things to do than this. Especially when it turns out the whole thing was nonsense anyway.

Talking to residents in Somerton this morning I was listening to their concerns about the financial situation at Somerset Council and the impact it’s already having on communities.

Cllr Dance is paid to attend important Council meetings like this. I took time off work to ensure I could vote, clearly he does not value the importance of the Council now his sights are set on higher things. If you don’t want to do the work, don’t take the pay.

Hmm Lib-Dem parliamentary candidate (plus councillor and cabinet member) misses council meeting where his Lib-Dem administration voted to cut services and budgets by over £30million…

Poor decision-making from @SomersetCouncil is going to cost families & traders dearly this Christmas. @DJAFothergill left the council in good financial order, ruined within 18 months. The same has happened with @bathnes Green & Liberal's focusing on vanity projects over services

@lordparker We took the brave decision to invite the country to see first hand the challenges Adult Social Care faces by inviting BBC Panorama to come in. We took the decisions needed at the time, drove change and left the Council with a strong financial position with growing reserves.

18 months ago Somerset County Council changed political leadership, the previous one having delivered balanced budgets and growing reserves for many years. Now the new administration is leading it to bankruptcy.

@adamReames You’re right it isn’t. We worked under the same financial parameters and pressures but managed to grow council reserves. This is a botch job by Somerset Lib Dems.

A very long Somerset full council meeting today where I asked the Lib Dems about their absurd decision to cut over 30% of the parking spaces in a Taunton car park which has resulted in a self inflicted annual financial loss of £173,000.

This morning was spent at a Corporate & Resources Scrutiny Committee looking at the projected £28million overspend for this year. Lib-Dem run Somerset Council will need to take some difficult decision if they are to get this under control.
