This is a ladder crosswalk! In areas with heavier pedestrian traffic, these added high-visibility markings help guide pedestrians safely across the road. They also provide a visual alert for drivers to slow down, stay aware, and watch for people crossing.

Today, SCDOT joined state and local partners to celebrate the completion of the new Old Vaucluse Road bridge over I-20. After last year’s collapse, crews reopened I-20 in less than 36 hours and worked quickly to deliver a permanent replacement bridge.

SCDOT and its partners are on track to have two new bridges, along with a new pedestrian walkway, in the Orangeburg area completed by the end of the year. A traffic shift has been planned on US 301 for late fall as crews finish the new bridges.

🚧 Recently, work began on pavement improvements along Chaney Grove Road in Darlington County. This project stretches just over 3 miles and runs through the town of Timmonsville. Help keep everyone safe by slowing down while traveling through work zones. 🛣️

Safety upgrades being made to a Colleton County highway are on track to be finished by this August! Improvements on SC 61 between Arrowhead Lane and the Colleton/Dorchester county line include paving, new guardrails, widened shoulders, and new right turn lane into Bee City Zoo.

SCDOT is making moves in the Midlands, widening I-26 in Calhoun and Lexington counties! 🚧🛣️ The project starts at Exit 125, Old Sandy Run Road, and extends east of Exit 136, SC 6. Crews are now working in the median, which will eventually hold a new lane for westbound traffic.

🚧 The Church Street Bridge in downtown Greenville is closed and getting a major refresh! 🚧 Crews are beautifying the structure and prepping for hydrodemolition to remove old concrete and prepare the bridge deck for a new concrete overlay.

In Lancaster County, SCDOT is replacing the load restricted bridge on Baskins Hill Road (S-47) over Baskins Creek. Crews have placed new girders and will soon begin work on the bridge deck. The new bridge is expected to reopen to traffic later this year.

The bridge on West Washington Street in Greenville County is back open to traffic! 🎉 After being damaged during Hurricane Helene, this bridge underwent an emergency replacement, and now it’s back and better than before, with fresh paving and new striping.

The bridge on Sunny Plain Road over I-26 in Calhoun County recently reopened to traffic! 🚗 Crews finished replacing the bridge in the last few weeks. The new and improved bridge is part of SCDOT's effort to widen more than 11 miles of I-26 in Calhoun and Lexington counties.

Next time you’re driving under a bridge on the interstate, take a quick look up.⬆️ You’ll notice signs or painted text displaying the bridge’s clearance height, and in some cases, the route number that the bridge is part of, especially if it’s state-maintained.
