@SCHeritageEvent I thought I had read it was carved from a railway sleeper (to acknowledge the proximity of the railway and London Bridge station).

This #woodensday feast your eyes on the beautiful Madonna and Child by sculptor Peter Eugene Ball, carved from an old roof beam and installed in the Cathedral in 1989.
