9 y.o. Bohdan* has spent nearly half of his life under full-scale war. He can already tell the sound of a missile from a drone. Children here have endured ~4,000 hours of air raid alarms — over 5.5 months of constant alerts — since Feb 2022.

Meet Chivas, a German Spitz helping children in Kharkiv region learn mine safety. He signals danger by crossing his paws, making lessons fun and memorable. Save the Children and Ukrainian Deminers Association reached 90,000+ people across 10 regions with mine risk education.

Teachers in frontline regions play a crucial role in supporting children. Together with partner Istok & support from Swiss Solidarity, we conducted a Psychological First Aid training in Sumy, helping educators better respond to stress and trauma & care for their own well-being.

Around 450 children in the Mykolaiv region are catching up on learning thanks to support from Save the Children, Teach for Ukraine, and the European Union. “We gain new knowledge, revise what we studied before, and communicate more with friends,” says Lida*, a student.

Olesia*, 6, and her family are rebuilding after their home in Kharkiv was shelled. With Save the Children’s support, they’re repairing the roof, windows, doors, and have temporary accommodation while renovations continue.

Kherson region | Just 0.5 km from occupied areas, our team & partners from Southern Development Strategy prepared for winter well in advance. With support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund, 400+ families received cash, 700+ relief kits, 400 winterization materials and more.

Stefania* is 11. Because of COVID and the war, almost all her schooling was online - until now. Thanks to Save the Children and Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, she can finally learn in person in a safe shelter.

Family of Anton*, Mykhailo* & their sister Anna* rely on their own harvest, especially for winter. After last year’s crop failure, our cash grant helped them buy a new engine, fuel & seeds. We supported 100+ families in the Dnipro region with agricultural grants 🌱

📍Dnipro | Our team provides winter kits with warm sleeping items, thermoses, flashlights — everything that helps amid cold weather, power & heating disruptions. With support of the American people, provided through 🇺🇸 government, we distribute ~2,500 kits in frontline regions.

A maternity hospital was damaged by shelling in Zaporizhzhia. Even hospitals are not safe in Ukraine. “In -10°C winter cold, often without electricity, parents are forced to hide their children from attacks. Attacks on civilians must stop now,” says Sonia Khush, @SCIUkraine.

More than 200 children in a village in the #Mykolaiv region now have access to a safe shelter. Located at the local kindergarten, it serves not only the youngest children but also students from the nearby school. Thanks to the MFA of Denmark for making this support possible!

Protection risks for children and youth in Ukraine are not only urgent — they’re structural and long-term. At the Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels, our Regional Director @AhmadAlhendawi called to “align resources, empower communities, and invest in systems.”
