Augusta Diaries (Tuesday)
-Played the back nine today with Ben An. It was a northerly wind and it was swirling quite a lot. I played 11, 13, 15, 16, 18 all into the wind haha. Those holes are not in the same direction.
-11 is a beast. I hit a good drive and had 6i in and got it barely on. The ball is in the air for a long time there and the wind can do a lot of weird things.
-I hit driver on 13, into the wind, and there’s zero need to draw it there now with the wind into and the longer tee box. It’s 320 to the corner. I had 217 hole, hit 4i thinking the wind was mostly right to left, the ball came up 15 yds short of what I expected and as it was rolling into the creek, felt a big gust come through and my caddie and I kinda laughed at the gust. I’ll need a good attitude and let the good and the bad roll off me easily.
-15 Ben and I both hit good drives and I joked that there’s no chance we’re getting there and Ben said not with that attitude. Both had about 265 front into the wind and Ben hit driver landed it on and just rolled off the back. Sick shot.
-16 I tried to skip it across the pond. I can never hit it hard enough because I’m afraid I’m going to fly the lake and badly injure a patron. Two tries, neither made it across.
-18 is a proper hole into the wind. Hit a good tee shot a little right and had to hit a low slice 5i from 195 to hit the green. Not a lot of places to miss it there either.
-There’s def less trees around than last time from the hurricane. But you would never know. There’s no trace of them haha.
-Practiced a bit afterwards. My only wish with the practice facility here is that the greens would have some more contouring. The chipping greens have them but the practice putting green is very flat.
-Lag putting is quite difficult here because the slopes are so big and yet the greens are super fast. If you have a long super uphill putt, I have a hard time hitting the putts hard enough because I know the greens are really fast. I’m trying to hit as many really long lag putts as I can.
-Had the crispy chicken sandwich for lunch today… which was fine…
