Sacred Cow Shipyards

@SCShipyards

Just your neighborhood Dockmaster taking a serious, quasi-historical, (mostly) sober look at some of the famous ships and other such things from science fiction

Just, y'know, floating around Katılım Mart 2021

You can learn more from any random Discworld book than you ever could hope to learn from The Great Gatsby.

@SCShipyards I got full marks in English from 6th grade on. I never did course work, I just read books. Primarily Discworld. I would fill out a book report form for each book.

@RRobovski I liked that the stroller Grogu hijacked looked like a speeder bike with the handle down, but that was about all I could say about the trailer.

@SCShipyards The Wife is very interested so I'll be seeing it. Season 3 was weak, we'll see. Maybe it will just be fun.

I finally watched one of the trailers for Mando & Grogu, and, boy, Mando has COMPLETELY given upon the whole "helmet" thing, hasn't he? I mean, I guess he knows where the Living Waters are and can go take a dip whenever, but so much for that entire character element.

So Starfleet Academy is sufficiently creatively bankrupt that they're just straight-up ripping off Predator ship designs now? Thanks to the detached... nacelles? and complete lack of design language, I can't even tell if they bothered to flip its X axis or just copy-pasted.

Aside from contaminated materials and equipment (which, yes, does exist), there's really no such thing as "nuclear waste". There's just fuel that you pansy-asses haven't built the proper reactors to burn yet.

@Brother_Raphael It looks like both European 6th Gen programs aren't due to be operational until "the 2040s", so assuming no delays on the carrier (hah), seems like.

@SCShipyards That means this new carrier, commissioning in 2038 (hopefully), will carry Rafale, a 4.5Gen

"France Libre" sounds like an ethanol-free "mocktail" you order at the poofiest of "pop-up festivals"; it somehow costs €40 and comes in a shot-glass sized biodegradable cup that's already dissolving before it's even handed to you. Of all the names in their history...
France Elects 🇫🇷@FRElects

It’s official: Emmanuel Macron has just announced the name of the French Navy’s next-generation aircraft carrier. It will be called “France Libre” and is set to replace the Charles de Gaulle.

@SCShipyards I remember before they taxed inventory when stores always had the shit you needed. Taxing inventory is what triggered this bullshit.

The frustration is valid, but "warehouse costs" aren't the motivation. Every piece of inventory you have laying about, doing nothing, is the physical manifestation of currency that could be doing literally anything else. Less inventory, more money for other things, hence JIT.
Kitty@TheRealKitty019

JIT IS A PLAGUE AND ITS PROPONENTS SHOULD BE ON TRIAL IN THE HAGUE FOR HOW THOROUGHLY THEY FUCKED EVERY INDUSTRY ON THE PLANET YEAH LET’S INTRODUCE INFINITE INSTABILITY TO THE SUPPLY CHAIN TO SAVE PENNIES, FUCKING PENNIES, ON WAREHOUSE COSTS BEANCOUNTERS DESERVE HELL

@Kohuoro They're fundamentally the same design as 90% of commercial reactors, just compacted. The higher-enrichment just helps with decreased refueling events; I'm sure they can run marginally less efficiently off lower grade materials.

@SCShipyards The one reason I have heard, at least in regards to the USN reactors, is that they use highly enriched uranium so they cannot be run by civilian operators.

I don't really care about geographic regions of your planet, but I see the argument. I still think we should be able to auto-mute accounts - because they sure as hell aren't humies - who have a default username.
Sacred Cow Shipyards@SCShipyards

Hey @elonmusk , add "Who have a default username" to this list. NameBunchOfNumbers is a clear indication of either bot or no value to be found. And, no, there is no third option.

@E17199 It'd be hard to print and not get the seam lines in it, but somewhat easier to make a mold from the print and go from there.

@IRA_Darth_Aggie Hey, at least they're reactivating 3 Mile Island. Granted, it's all going to be wasted on not-AIs, but once the bubble inevitably bursts...

@SCShipyards I was thinking "for the googles". I was very disappointed I couldn't stick on in my back yard and run my house off the output.
