Kenya Wins Three Awards at 2025 Continental Africa Public Service Day Celebrations in Addis Ababa Tuesday, 24th June 2025 — Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Kenya emerged as a top performer at the 10th edition of the Continental Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations, clinching three prestigious awards during the gala dinner held on Monday, 23rd June 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Themed "Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps," the biennial event brought together public sector innovators from across the continent to showcase transformative ideas aimed at improving public service delivery. Kenya’s award-winning innovations were: Best Innovation in Service Delivery: Poultry Melovax by Tharaka University – 1st Place Most Accountable & Transparent Organization: Jaza Miti Initiative by Kenya Forestry Research Institute – 1st Runners-up Best Pavilion: Team Kenya Exhibition Stand – 2nd Runners-up Several other Kenyan institutions showcased outstanding innovations at the event, including: 1. State Department for Internal Security & National Administration – Automated Reporting Management Information System (ARMIS) 2. Baringo National Polytechnic – Water Recycling Innovation 3. ADDRESSING DISPARITIES IN HARDSHIP AREAS Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr Jane Kere Imbunya, today accompanied Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Dr Musalia Mudavadi to the plenary of the National Assembly of Kenya. PS IMBUNYA ACCOMPANIES PRESIDENT RUTO ON VIHIGA COUNTY DEVELOPMENT TOUR Principal Secretary Dr Jane Kere Imbunya on Thursday, 19th March 2026, accompanied H.E. President William Samoei Ruto during his development tour of Vihiga County. During the visit, the President officially launched the construction of Kidundu Stadium, a key project aimed at nurturing local talent and promoting sports development in the region. He also presided over the groundbreaking of Mbale Market, which is set to boost trade and provide a conducive environment for small-scale traders and entrepreneurs. In addition, the President commissioned 220 completed housing units at Milimani in Majengo under the Affordable Housing Programme, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to improving living standards and expanding access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans. The tour was attended by various National and County leaders, as well as local residents, who turned out in large numbers to witness the milestone developments.

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, together with the Principal Secretary, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, accompanied H.E. president William Samoei Ruto, during the official launch of the newly established Huduma Centre in Kimilili, Bungoma County. The new Huduma Centre is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to enhance service delivery by bringing essential public services closer to wananchi. Residents of Kimilili and the surrounding areas will now access a wide range of government services under one roof, including issuance of national identification cards, birth certificates, driving licences, SHA , Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) services and other government services. The establishment of the centre is expected to significantly improve efficiency, convenience, and accessibility of government services, thereby strengthening public service delivery at the grassroots level.

GOVERNMENT SIGNS PARTNERSHIP DEAL TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC SERVICE REFORMS AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT The State Department for Public Service & Human Capital Development on Tuesday 10th March, 2026 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Population and Health Research Center aimed at strengthening knowledge management, research collaboration, and institutional capacity across the public service. Speaking during the signing ceremony held at Harambee house, Nairobi, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service & Human Capital Development Dr.Jane Kere Imbunya, noted that the partnership marks an important milestone in advancing public sector reforms and strengthening the performance of the Kenyan Public Service. The collaboration is expected to support ongoing government efforts to enhance institutional efficiency, promote evidence-based policymaking, and improve service delivery to citizens. The PS emphasized that strong institutions depend on strong human capital systems and effective knowledge governance. The partnership will therefore focus on strengthening knowledge management as a people-centered public service function, building leadership and technical capacity across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and supporting research and innovation to inform policy and decision-making. Through the collaboration, the two institutions will also work together to promote institutional learning, support performance improvement initiatives, and facilitate the sharing of best practices within government. The State Department reaffirmed its commitment to provide policy leadership and coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the partnership. Activities under the MoU will be integrated into the Department’s work plans and implemented across government institutions. The partnership is expected to contribute to strengthened institutional capacity, improved knowledge sharing across government, enhanced public service performance, and more responsive and citizen-centered service delivery. The signing of the MoU reflects the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening public sector reforms and building a modern, professional, and results-oriented public service.

Central to their discussions was the need to strengthen youth and women empowerment programmes to expand economic opportunities and support community development. They also explored ways of enhancing service delivery through the Huduma Mashinani Programme, particularly through the Huduma Centre in Mbale, to ensure that government services are brought closer to wananchi and accessed more efficiently. The leaders further deliberated on empowering schools within Hamisi Sub-County and the wider Vihiga region through the provision of essential support and resources to improve learning environments and nurture the next generation. IMBUNYA PRESIDES OVER THE 2ND ANNUAL WOMEN IN HR BREAKFAST MEETING The Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr Jane Kere Imbunya, on Monday 9th March, 2026 graced the 2nd Annual Women in HR Breakfast Event as the Chief Guest in Nairobi. The event brought together human resource professionals, policy leaders, and industry stakeholders to reflect on the role of women in shaping inclusive workplaces and strengthening leadership across institutions. The meeting organized by the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) under the leadership of its Executive Director, CHRP Quresha Abdullahi provided an important platform to celebrate women’s contributions to the HR profession while also addressing persistent gender gaps in leadership positions within both the public and private sectors. Speaking during the event, Dr. Imbunya emphasized that women remain central to the social and economic fabric of the nation. She noted that women anchor families, strengthen communities, and increasingly shape institutions that drive development. “Women are at the heart of our nation’s progress. When we invest in women’s advancement and leadership, we strengthen our institutions and unlock greater prosperity for society as a whole,” said Dr. Imbunya.
