Our CCP colleagues have separate unique development needs 😊

This is commendable work by @EEAST_UrgCare and it’s staggering that it has taken this long for a trust to start taking advanced practice seriously. Sadly I think they’re going to be an outlier for quite some time while others fail to grasp the nettle.

Our APPs sit ‘out of plan’ for standard deployment, making them available to the Emergency Operations Centre for allocation to Category 1 (immediately life threatening) cases and APP crew referrals. They monitor calls on the system for ‘self allocation’ to suitable patients 🚔

@SECAmb_APP With respect, the best way to align with the career framework is to reserve the title ‘advanced’ for those that meet the criteria isn’t it? Anything else just detracts from the goal of national standardisation of post-registration career development.

@emily_restell @GenerallyUnwell Thanks for great questions Emily. Each APP has a named Practice Development Lead to provide their clinical supervision, supported by Health Education England. There is no requirement for NMP within advanced practice, however we’re exploring whether there is a need in amb serv 👍🏻

@GenerallyUnwell @SECAmb_APP Would also be interested to hear which Curriculum Framework APPs will use and how they will go about having clinical/educational supervision in the absence of medical support. Is the plan for APPs to therefore also become NMPs?

@GenerallyUnwell 😂😂😅 So sorry Silas! We’ll blame a long day 🙈 Many of them already hold an MSc and those that don’t are being supported to obtain required evidence through HEE portfolio route. This will better align us to the CoP career progression framework recommendations 👍🏻

@SECAmb_APP Interesting! What proportion of current PPs hold an MSc though? Doesn’t the CoP post-reg career framework stipulate an MSc to be considered ‘advanced’? Also, nothing personal but how do so many people spell my name wrong when it’s literally written in front of them 😂

@GenerallyUnwell Hey Silus. The PP education pathway moved over to an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice a couple of cohorts ago. Following consultation, the JD was revised to reflect activities practicing across the four pillars, with the new APP title getting approved a few weeks ago 🙂
