Governor Newsom recently signed into law a bill that requires all school employees and contractors must be “natural humans”, i.e., not AI. This is a good first step to regulating AI in schools, but it doesn’t go far enough.

GOOD NEWS ALERT! For the first time EVER, California has allocated funding in the state budget for helping schools to identify and support unhoused students.

Students are increasingly using AI as a replacement for real life social connection. In a world already plagued by an increasing sense of isolation, AI in schools is part of the problem.
